High Idle Equipment?

Dealer had my truck to fix P245A problem, asked them to enable the high idle feature, they said OK...

Went to pick it up & service manager said he didnt do it because I dont have all of the necessary components & told me that the piece I needed was 600.00

Anyone got any advice for this one? From the reading i've done thus far, it was just an option the dealership had to enable with their scanner thing

the feature only applies if it is a auto from what i remember. It does cost money if it is a manual which yours is according to sig.

K, well I've kinda got the same problem, but my truck is an Auto.I've been reading in here that taking the truck to the dealer was a simple thing of "plug it in & turn it on".
All I wanted was the ability to use my cruise control buttons on the steeringwheel to adjust the idle, regardless of the temperature.

I just got the truck back from the dealer (Air Conditioning clunk that they couldn't figure out) they said that the high idle was already turned on but is only be activated if the outside temperature was low enough. -5deg C.

Is my dealer full of it, or am I mistaken in my trucks capability.

Your dealer is full of it. I have a 2500 6.7 6 speed auto that I took to a local dealer to have the high idle feature activated. It was done in less than an hour... probably only took 5 minutes in real time. I use mine in all kinds of temperatures so the bit about it only working in low temperatures is pure crap. Find another dealer who knows what they are talking about. As I said, I have an automatic, so I'm not sure if all of this is true for the manual or not.

The high idle feature on the automatics takes 5 mins to install...

It is a plug and play with the dealers computer and works regardless of temp.... I like the feature....

Are local dealer in Texas is charging $300 for the manual transmissions for the high idle feature since there is a box and some wiring involved....

Hope this helps...

As to the question about the auto trannys it takes the Star Scan tool and the tech needs to enable the manual high idle feature. There are 2 hi idles, first is enabled by default, and if the outside temp gets below a pre set amount like 40* or so (not sure of temp) it will ramp up and down the engine while ideling in park/neutral. The other works with the curise control buttons, curise on and then "set" ramps up to 1100 rpm. Each "increase" push = 100 rpm up to 1500 or so and each "decrease" =100 back down to 1100 rpm. I have not heard of any years after 04.5 that it can't be done other than the manuals which require some additional work/parts to get to work.

anyone with a Bully Dog Triple Dog SHOULD be able to do it for you, but i have not seen that in person.

FWIW, the high idle is AWESOME for running the AC. it really makes the AC kick, and when you get back in the cab, the leather seats are nice and cool.

i use it more in the heat than for the cold.

Since I do have an auto, but it is the 2006 w/ a 5.9l, should my engine still be able to idle up?

Because of my engine light coming on going across the country, I had to take mine in three times too three diffrent dealers in a week.. Only the FOURTH dealer got it right with the high idle... That is the one in Vickterville CA.. Those guys are GREAT ! My engine light is on again and I have to go mess with my local now Fifth trip to the dealer in six weeks and 6200 Miles...

I like the idea of the high idle for the AC purpose but can someone explain other benifits of the high idle feature

there was a STUPID problem that made the 5.9's come on...maybe search the threads, there is a TSB for something simple, like a "battery temperature irrational" or something like that. the battery temp sensor was too far off the temp sensed by the outside sensor.

quick & easy fix, if same...everyone had that code several times in first few weeks with the 06's

it allows you to run the idle up (from say 1100 rpm to ~2000 - not sure max) so that the cylinders burn clean (at idle - the unused fuel "washes down" the cylinder walls into crankcase and....blah blah blah...)

so it prevents washdown and myriad list of things people attribute to washdown,

and it allows folks to run PTO's and power acccessories in the frozen north.

basically, it's an electronic broom stick holding the gas pedal...

but the AC part is best. 1100 rpm vice 750 rpm drops AC several degress.

My dealer charged me $35.00 dollars to enable the high idle. I complained and then stood there there with the stop watch on my phone it actually cost me $11.40 per minute for the enable. I do like though for the air cond. and my service writer said the computer only records idling under 1100 rpm. So that should not be a problem If my dpf ever plugs. I hope.

2rowdy, do you recall a specific name/code number ect that may help me in letting these monkeys get closer to turning the manual high idle control on for me? when I say "high idle" they are just relpling yea, its already turned on....

UPDATE
I just spoke to a more confident & knowledgable dealer, Varsity Dodge in Calgary, & they knew exactly what I was talking about & agreed to do it this afternoon. To just stop in & their tech will do it-FREE of charge. She said it was covered by warranty!!

Guess I will be going to these guys from know on.
