Hello, new member and not so proud owner of a 6.7

Hello everyone. New to the site. My name is Terry. I've been reading a few posts for the last week or so. I'm in St Louis and am, like I said, a not so proud owner of a 6.7 auto Dodge. I had a 5.9 auto before this one and did like that truck. The only problem I had with that truck was the tranny went out at 117k miles As for the 6.7, it's been in the shop four times since I bought it in Nov of '07. The first visit was the oxygen senser module, the second they changed the oxygen sensers, the third visit (@26K miles) the starter was replaced, and lastly (yesturday @27k miles) they are putting a new turbo in. The code was for "reduced flow" or something like that. They said the turbo is "clogged" and they are just replacing them now instead of cleaning them (thank god). The truck also has had the "check guages" light come on several times. It goes away within a few hours or so. The dealer can't find the problem. When this light comes on, all gauges are good.

I'm thinking of doing the egr and dpf delete mods. I'm not exactly sure what year my truck is (07 or 7.5). I know it has updated software though and I told them yesturday to update it to the newest flash. Any suggestions appreciated.

If it's a 6.7 then it's a 07.5. Doing the EGR delete, or just simply unplugging it, will cure all the former problems you had except for the starter. Do some reading here as you will possibly need to remove the butterfly valve in the intake manifold in order for your truck to run right. With the newest flash you may be just fine though. The benefits of this are no more nasty stinkin soot getting pumped into your engine and your fuel mileage should go up at least a couple points. The drawbacks are that you will have a constant CEL and your truck will take longer to warm up on cold days.
I can live with those drawbacks......

Thanks Dodgezilla. I'm thinking of also getting a scanner or programmer. I'm not too interested in a high dollar kit like the edge or bully dog. I'm more interested in just erasing the codes. A few extra horses and torque would be nice, but not a big deal. Any advice on a scanner, programmer, etc??

welcome and sorry to hear you are having problems. I just bought a edge juice/attauide off ebay for 399. It is a rfurbushed one but comes with a 90 day warrenty. you can get a ts mp8 but it does not clear codes. the programmers are hypertech/bullydog/banks and maybe superchips? Best of luck mopar72

You've come to the right spot to learn and share your problems with the 6.7.

Follow Dodgezilla's advice, and you will be all right!

Welcome to the DTR!

I have vowed NOT to add any extra power to this truck and I have stuck to that so far even though there may be wagers here on how long I can hold out and keep driving with stock power. Since I am staying stock I just went to Harbor Freight and got their $90.00 CENTECH code scanner/clearer. It has worked great for me so far.

If you want extra power then the Edge Juice w/ Attitude monitor or the Bullydog PMT seem to be the favorites due the the variety of functions they give you and also that they can clear your codes automatically if you set them up that way...

Dodgezilla, you mentioned having a constant 'CEL' when unplugging the EGR. What is a CEL? I'm totally new to the diesel truck world and lingo.

I'm not Dodgezilla, but the CEL is Check Engine Light, the little engine symbol.

Yup. You will always have the little engine light on whenever the truck is running. Companies are working on EGR foolers that will allow us to unplug but have the ECM think that it is still plugged in. This will allow us to unplug without that annoying Ding and the dash light. Early estimates have it at around $300 which, to me, is really not worth it unless I win the lottery and just feel like throwing money away. I'm so used to mine now that I don't even notice it anymore....
