Fuel Mileage
Quite simply, these trucks go into regen a lot more with all of the starts and stops when driving in the city, plus the fact that the rpm's are not high enough for maximum fuel mileage (making more soot and causing more regens) when city driving. A way around this is to use tow/haul in the city.
I just completed a round trip from N. Tex to Missouri, thru the winding up and down hills of Ark and got an average for the trip of 19.5, hand calculated. Really loved the exhaust brake on the hills in Ark, did not have to use regular brakes at all to keep speed under control going downhill. I have an 08 2500 Quad Cab 4x4, 6.7L eng, stock,no modifications & 3:73 axle with 8000 miles. I had been averaging 15.5 > 16 mixed driving at home.

Coming from 4:10 gears 100% city 10 to 11 mpg. Empty 99% hwy 20mpg. 4 - 5k tow hwy 19mg. Hwy speed's with cruise control at 60 - 65 mph. City dont metter driving easy or hard is still 10 - 11 mpg
I've got a 2008 Mega 4x4 stock with 26K miles. To date, 16.97 MPG hand calculated from new. I've seen 21+ several times when empty. I tow trailers with two whitewater rafts stacked on top of each other and another trailer with two dirtbikes - the raft set up is pretty bad from an aerodynamic standpoint. With my loads, weight does not seem to make any difference, just whether I tow the raft setup or the bikes. The bikes and trailer is tucked into the airstream and don't really make a difference from driving empty. I'd say at least 50% of my miles are towing, as this is not a daily driver.
Here's the great news for you new guys: I've gone from an average of around 14.5 MPG when new to the 16.97 MPG now with the 26K miles. As I don't tow heavy, I would imagine I still have some room to improve say by 30K miles.
Had one CEL, dealer replaced EGR - no problems since. I really like this truck so far. I do run 70 lbs front and 60 lbs rear in the BF Goodrich stock tires.
Good luck with your Ram!

14.1 is best I've seen on my farm truck driving around 70-75 mph.
On the farm I get 9.3mpg!! This thing sucks!! Literally!!
That's barely any better then the old 2000 454 1 ton would get! I do have a little more power but not near as much as my old 2002 Duramax did!!
Throwing codes now. EGR valve needs replaced.
We've got a 2007½ that has the exhaust plugged for the second time in a month. Guess they didn't build these trucks to be used on the farm.

I think you're right they don't build any of these new DPF equiped trucks for farm work or anything where there is extended idling or putting around. They have just about made these new trucks highway queens.
I just finished a 4150 mile vacation to yellowstone and back. Low tank was 14.6 mpg High tank was 19.4 trip average was 17.9 I never get the higher #s around san antonio, must be an altitude thing.
