fuel filter question

I have a 2008, 6.7, with a thousand miles. I went out today to get myself
familiar with how the fuel filter works, I turned the white **** and no diesel fuel came out. So I kept turning it until the plastic hose and **** came off and still no diesel fuel came out. My question is, is there any way the fuel is bypassing the fuel filter?

There maybe some slug , what ever in the bottom of the canister , being a new truck you may want the dealer to check it out , if there is an issue , it needs to be documented if it is .

I found that you have to turn the ignition to "on" for a few seconds with the **** open to energize the fuel pump. Be sure to have something under the hose to catch the fuel.

The dealer call me to day and said that the o-ring was split and is not available through parts. So they had to replace fuel filter housing/heater assembly to repair thanks for your help.
