Fix alternatives?
This has probably been discussed a zillion times so I apologize for 'beating the dead horse'. Bought my 08' new and love the truck. Currently only 34,800 miles. I'm frustrated like so many others with the whole EGR, DPF thing but I do not want to delete. Had it into the dealer at least four times in the last six years for dirty turbo. So, here's my question, are there any other practical fixes, other than the deletes, that will help with the dirty turbo issues? I admit my biggest problem is too many short trips, 10-15 miles, and not a lot of hauling. The dealer says to 'drive it hard at a higher RPM' and to me that is not a fix but a band aid for faulty engineering. Thanks.

They are all bandaides except the deletes. Only other things you didn't mention were driving with the exhaust brake on all the time and in tow/haul mode to make it really active which I highly suggest to keep the variable movement of the turbo vanes clean.

I run the e-brake all the time except in bad weather since it likes to slide around a bit, and have always "drove it like I stole it".
27k miles on my '08 and the DPF is super clean.
Yeah I think the engineering is horrible on this setup, but my next steps will be wrapping the exhaust/DPF to keep heat in, or doing the full delete since I have an H&S MiniMaxx and delete pipe on standby.
I do need to find the EGR plates though .....

I also always run with the e-brake on. Do not use tow haul unless towing. I do however have unplugged the EGR valve.
Been unplugged for over 70K miles and have had no problems, except the check engine light stays on. You can get a programmer to take care of this but I just live with it. I do check for other codes every so often.
I have 110k miles on now with no problems. Running with the EGR unplugged lowers intake air temps 50 - 60 degrees and MPG's are about 2 mpg better.

Took my truck to the dealer yesterday due to a P2262 code, irregular idle and dying. Dealer told me today I need a new turbo and the bill will be $4000+. I'm arguing the mechanical history with them and feel they have a moral obligation to assist with the cost, however, I'm pretty sure I know how this will end up. So with that being said, I ask the masses what would be a good replacement turbo for less cost than the pirates at the dealership would offer. My truck is completely stock (mechanically) and I would prefer a turbo that would bolt right in without any other supporting performance parts. XDP has a Fleece VGT for about $2100 that is supposed to provide a bit of performance over stock and will install like the stock turbo. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. I'm the oddball that doesn't want mass power. I just want close to stock towing efficiency. Also, how would I go about unplugging the EGR like Rrloren1 mentioned, and are there any other disadvantages to doing that except for the CEL issue?

I've never had a problem.I have used some electrical tape to cover the 2 unplugged pieces just to keep them clean.
If you have to plug back in you can either erase the code yourself or after a few starts it erases itself.
Just have to put up with the CEL unless you get a programmer.

Just a quick look on dodgepartsonline.com gave this: http://www.dodgepartsonline.net/part...&siteid=215506
I know you said you want alittle more performance than stock but a modified turbo alone won't give you that.

Anyone have any opinions on the remanufactured (stock) turbo's? I've been looking around the internet and found some reputable turbo manufactures sell them on the north side of a grand.
I don't know about the emissions warranty but will check. I may have wrecked that due to my own big mouth. When I first took the truck to the dealer I explained the rough idle and problems started when I was putting a tune on the vehicle with my Flashpaq. That automatically became his crutch and everything from bad turbo to worn out windshield wipers were now because of the tuner. I believe it was just a coincidence and I should have kept my mouth shut about the tuner.
