First diesel questions

OK I had my oil changed for the first time at the dealership. They charge me 28.00. Any way there is a drip in my driveway which is another story, but there is a hose running down the side of the oil pan that is the only thing wet or leaking is this some kinda blow but hose or something?? I checked the oil level and if anything it is a bit over full. While I am checking that I notice the oil is really dark I have seen posts about the sulfer contaminating oil quickly but after only 150 miles? Is this normal?

The bypass won't keep the oil from turning black, and quickly. Much of the soot is submicron in size and wiil not get filtered out.

The oil should not be dark that soon. I wonder if they really changed the oil or if they forgot to? anyways, mine does not get dark even after a few thousand miles. $28.00 seems inexpensive for an oil change on a diesel.

On the 600 diesels the oil gets dark very quickly. 150 is probably earlier than usual.

The oil on "03-04" cummins doesn't get dark for a long time. My oil is about 5k old and as of yesterday it was still relativly clean.

Mine gets dark pretty fast. They say the color of oil has nothing to do with lubrication properties, but I change mine every 7000 miles or so.

Mine was black after the first 300 miles. I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it. Typical diesel. If I was worried about it I would do oil analysis and use that to help me make decisions about change intervals. But I figure 7500 is good enough as per the manual and probably it could go longer but that'll keep it within warranty so that's good enough for me.

Yes 28.00 for LOF. On my Hemi gasser it was 10.00.
Dick's Country Dodge in Hillsboro Oregon. I think they probably make it up on the other maintance. I had them power flush the Hemi transmission and it was around 100.

I have owned an 04 and now an 05 and the oil has always got black within 100 miles. I also have the small amount of oil come out of the crank case breather tube. If its a small amount dont worry about it. There was a post on here from someone who emailed cummins about it and they said that small amounts of oil is a normal condition. Relax and enjoy your truck

My first LOF change cost $30. The first change was 50% off. They gave me a card that said that the first one is 50% off and the 5th one is free.... hmmmm... Where's the catch??
Are they going to gig me real hard on the fuel filter/air filter? hahahahaha

During break-in your oil will soot up very fast. Cummins actually recommends 15,000 mile oil changes and 7,500 for severe duty, I personally think thats way to long to run your oil
