It may have 3.73's. I can't find anywhere on the window sticker where it says anything about gear ratio. I'm pretty sure the first truck I drove without cruise or exhaust brake said 4.10 gears in the optional equipment. This truck doesn't say anything, so it may have 3.73. It's been a real problem swaping trucks and beds, can't remember which had what. So what is the difference in the gear ratios in the new and old 6 speed?

Yeah, I'm glad the rpm's end up about the same. I pull pretty heavy too and that's where I like it as well. If they both have the same 1st gear ratio, I hope the little higher gearing in the 07 won't make that big a difference in taking off with a full load.

Actually the g-56 has a much lower first gear ratio so you should be fine. The gear ratios are as follows: 1st gear G-56 6.29 1st gear nv-5600 5.63, 2nd 3.48 - 3.38, 3rd 2.10 - 2.04, 4th 1.38 - 1.39, 5th 1.00 - 1.00, 6th .79 - .73

I had posted earlier that I had test-driven a cab and chassis DRW a couple weeks ago. We were going to get it, but it didn't have cruise, so the dealership started looking for one with cruise. Well they found one with cruise and an exhaust brake, but it had a cheap flatbed on it. We talked them into swapping beds. It took them a couple weeks, but it was well worth it. It's got a very different powerband than the 02 it replaces. Feels like it has more power as well. I think the new 6 speed shifts better than the old one. I will have to get used to reverse being all the way left and down. I thought i'd take some pics and post them since this is as clean as it will probably ever be again.
Oh yeah, I looked at the exhaust. There is a sensor right before the muffler, but nothing after. Seems that would make it ok for straight pipe or aftermarket muffler, but I'll probably wait a while until someone else does it first.

There's nothing in the glovebox.
The heaviest thing I've pulled so far is a 5 round bale hay hauler that is probably around 8,000lb loaded. So it's not really a challenge. I'm going to be moving 20 head of cattle in a 28 foot trailer on Wednesday. I'll have a better idea on how it is then.

I hauled 20 cows and 2 bulls yesterday in two loads. The first load was 10 and the second load was 12. They were angus and brangus cows and angus bulls, I figure they averaged 1400lbs. So the first load was around 14,000lbs, and the second 16,800. The pasture I hauled them to, I'd hauled to before in the old 2002 cab and chassis. The new truck definately pulls it better. The best way I can describe it is that in the 2002 truck with around that weight, if you had the gas peddle over 3/4 the way down and then floored it, nothing changed. No more speed. With the new truck, I was able to gain speed easily. It was a definate improvement. I like the exhaust brake alot. The shifter is still irritateing me though. I like the new trans, just not the location of reverse. I don't think it's something I'll just have to get used to either. I really don't like it. Overall i'm impressed with the truck though. It's much more refined than the 2002 it replaced in every detail. I really want to straight pipe it though.
