To the fellas who went from the 5.9 to the 6.7..
I bought my 6.7 Chassis Cab in March for an OTR work truck and
have 59,000 miles on it with no problems. The six speed manual
G56 w/3.73 is problem free but is geared too low for an otr
vehicle imo.
I work work with a guy that bought 6.7 P/U, has 52,000 miles and
has his 4th Catalytic Converter on it now. His 3rd Cat lasted
only 3,000 miles before going south. The Cat is the only problem
that he has had.
"I would buy a Chassis Cab 6.7 again" with reservations on the G56.
Not for lack of quality,, just wrong tranny for OTR.
The addition of a $3000 Gear Vendor seems to be my only logical
solution for getting my RPMs down to a satisfactory level for my kind
of work.
Edit:
Actually I've never owned a 5.9 but I did drive a 40ft Mobile Clinic
for 3 years that had the 5.9 with no problems except a fuel
pump problem and, as well as I can remember that was an
electrical glitch.
One wierd thing that happened while having a new
belt put on at about 20-25k miles, the Cummins dealer realized
that the fan was put on backwards,,,blowing forward.
Probably reversed where the Clinic was built. The 5.9 fan blowing
foward that many miles and 5.9 never ran hot.
The temp guage looked the same both ways.

jerry61....I've had a couple customers install a Gear Vendor on their G56 equipped trucks. Made them fall in love all over again! Both of them had purchased their trucks up north before making the winter pilgrimage south. Both loved the trans and said the trucks pulled great.....but when the dropped the trailer and wanted to cruise freeway speeds (75 + ) they would buzz way to high.
....now back to our topic at hand.
