To the fellas who went from the 5.9 to the 6.7..

What are your thoughts? What are the main differences between the two (especially the 6 speed auto)? Would you do it again?

It seems the problems that people are having with the 6.7 are primarily exhaust system related. Is that correct?

The 6 speed auto tranny sure seems like a heckuva selling point to me. Something else, what about the variable vane turbo? Can you tell any difference between it and the Holset on the 5.9's?

I'm starting to think about the 6.7 more and more, but will probably wait until the latter part of next year if I decide to make the jump. Any and all thoughts/concerns are appreciated

Would I do it again? In a skinny munute. Very pleased with the 6.7 and the auto tranny. The tranny and the exhaust brake work together very well. I have the brake on all the time and when you want to slow down it is very gentle. If you brake hard with the hydraulics the tranny shifts down to keep the RPM up and you really slow down. The shifts under this condition are very firm and the tranny stays locked up all the way down. Great when pulling a heavy R/V.

I have had no problems with my truck yet. IMO most of the problems with the exhaust filters are caused by poor fuel. IE higher sulfer than spec. Even with the stickers on the pumps, I think that some of the stations are not selling ULSD. That is something that will cure itself in a few months as I understand that nothing is being produced but the correct stuff and will flush all the storage tanks sooner or later.

The only down side that I have had is the MPG rate. I have been getting only 14-15 empty and 10 towing. May get better as it get broken in.

Hey man, If you wouldn't mind I'd probably take you up on that test drive. By the way, what dealership did you get your truck from?

Yeah the truck when delivered will *SHOULD* have only 17 miles on it so ill have to get her broke in good so you can put it to it. I bought out of indiana b/c i went to fletcher in bentonville and the best they would do was 7k under MSRP, i got the truck i bought out of indiana for almost 2k cheaper and it has close to 2k more worth of MSRP and options. I have been to every dealer around here and they only have base model SLT's. Mine is a SLT but has many options that i wanted, that no one around here had.

hopefully the truck will get here next week, ill cross my fingers, its being shipped.

I went from a 5.9 to a 6.7 back to a 5.9. I guess I must of had a bad on cause the best I could get out of the truck on the highway was 13 mpg hand cal. The 5.9 I just bought been avg. about 600 miles to the tank and the lowest tank ever got so far is about 500 and I reset the trip every tank.

Do you remember the dealer in IN that you purchased it from?

I sold an extremely nice 2003 RAM 2500 Quad Cab CTD 4x4 305/555 for my current truck (bought new and sold at less than 50.9k miles). I'm only at 3,800 miles on the '07.5 right now, but about the only thing I miss is the 2.0 to 2.5 mpg decrease in fuel economy (and I know better fuel economy is in sight....started out at 14.5 and I'm at 15.9 hand*calculated).

I don't miss the NV5600 any.....the 68RFE is a very nice automatic. It certainly shifts itself alot faster than I could the ol' NV5600. The exhaust brake is nice, and even seems to slow the truck more than the NV5600 did on my '03. I'd also get a 3500 if you have any doubts......even if it is a SRW. The spring package on my '07.5 is nicer while towing than my '03 2500.

I've had zero problems with my '07.5......no check engine lights and just the REV B. TSB. I also keep record of all my fuel purchases in a spreadsheet form on my computer in the event there's a fuel quality issue down the road.

This is my 4th CTD and they've all been great......and yes, I'd do it all over again.

Greg

Yepppppp.....LT285/70R17 Firestone Destination A/T's. I had the speedometer re-calibrated at my dealership (for free, I might add ) and 1,350 rpm @ 55 mph is nice.

I work on these daily and to this point have not seen any reasons not to own a 6.7 over a 5.9.

I traded in my 06 6 speed manual with 6000k on it a little over a month ago for a 6.7 auto and do not regret the switch. Im getting the same miles per tank between fillups as I did with my 01 or the 06.
I seem to never be happy with anything but im more than pleased with the new auto 6.7.
