Looking under my truck counted 5 sensors with wires and two metal tubes all connected with wiring at various locations throughout the length of the exhaust system. I do use my truck off road when hunting and fishing and sometimes travel in brushy areas.
Does anyone know what would happen if damage occurred to the exhaust system, wiring, sensors or tubing? Would the cpu allow the truck to operate normally and if so, for how long and how far would you be able to drive? Thanks ron

 

I think it won't re-gen correctly if you damage any of the wires but I do not think it will cause the to not run.

 

Yes , the truck will go into "limp mode" giving only minimal power to allow you to get to the dealer to have it fixed...........it will also display a CEL and a catalyst full message on your overhead prior to this "limp mode " happening.

 

6.7 is correct, the truck will go into limp mode, mine sure did. 0-60mph in 10min, , there is 3 egt sensors, 2 oxygen sensors and the tubes are the pressure sensors, take any of thses out and your truck will act like an eco car. this is why one day the dpf just fell off the truck.

 

This leads to the next question. How far can you go in limp mode and how much power do you have until it completely quits?
If you were in the bush 100 miles from the nearest dealer, could you make it back to civilization?

 

you can drive in limp in mode until the dpf plugs up so bad that the engine won't run at all.

You could undo the 3-bolt flange that holds the dpf on which would temporarily decrease the restriction enough for you to make it out.

Hope this doesn't get me kicked out, but its only a temp fix to potentially save your life.

Has anyone bypassed the wires to the sensors? just a thought, I'm no electrician,just to see if this would give you somemore miles to get to the nearest dealer.

 

I don't think that would work. When the dpf fills up with soot faster than the regen process can keep up with, the dpf gets plugged up. If the plugging is severe enough, the engine can be choked so bad it could stall.

I'm not sure how high the exhaust pressure will go before the engine will choke, but it can't be good for the turbo nor the egr system either.
