Exhaust brake question???

leave it on a much as you can. the constant action will prevent soot from building up on the shaft and will stop it from sticking. and it will also save on your service brakes.
i leave it on even when not towing.

I would recommend letting your turbo cool down (idle for a minute or two) once you're done before shutting the truck off. I'd been using my nearer my house (city driving) and it definitely got hot. I could smell it and feel it radiating.
I turn it off on the freeway because I'd rather coast

I asked the dealership diesel tech when I had mine installed last March (2007). He said to leave it on during towing, but not when driving w/o a load. That's what I do and mine works great. The new Jake Brake works through the computer and knows when to engage and how much. I use it manually when driving in Mountains w/o a load and also love the way it works under these conditions (even though my wife just thinks I'm trying to make noise).

does anyone else think the EB on the 5.9 06/07 autos has better stopping power than the factory 6.7s? when i test drove one of the new trucks i was not very impressed.
i leave mine on all the time, but unloaded its great, when i put the boat behind it you can hardly tell a difference. if i could do it over again, i would have gotten a pacbrake pbrx or just not mess with it at all

I suspect the difference you see between the 5.9 and 6.7 is the 6 speeds in the auto, so in normal driving it's braking in 2 OD in the new tranny versus 4th in the old style tranny.
On my 6.7, if you let off the gas in tow/haul even running empty, the EB will just about put you against the seat belt stops, and it will continue to downshift the tranny until you're slow enough for the convertor to kick out

I am used to driving a big truck with a clutch switch. My new Jake on my 2006 5.9 6 speed doesnt have one, which means if i dont shift quick enough it activates the jake and slows the engine usuly while i am releasing the clutch.... Are they all set up this way? also when i stop at a trafic light iit stayes on untill i flip the switch even once it has reached an idle.... When i learned to drive truck i remember the jake stalling the motor if i got out and left it switched on as soon as you tok your foot off the clutch it turned on the Jake and the motor would go right out... **** Mechanical injector pumps..... Imagine a linkage on your foot pedal these days!
