Exhaust Brake Issue

My 2007, 6.7 is all stock.

When first bought the truck and activated the EB I was amaized as to how the truck was slowed down.

Currently this is not the case. When I let off the gas without a trailer you can hear the EB but the truck does not slow down unless I am under 15 MPH.

I do notice the turbo whinning with the muffled exhaust brake

When towing my 16' horse trailer I experience the same and the I have to apply alot of brake to stop. The truck has been in for "TWO" turbo cleanings, could the EB be out of adjustment, is their an adjustment?

The sound from the EB use to be loud, now it is a muffled sound with little affect.

I have made sure the engine has been warmed up towing my horse trainer for 50 miles with the same effect.

Any suggestion?

yeah, it sounds like one of your gaskets has let loose on the EGR cooler or turbo flange. When these gaskets blow out the retarding power of the exhaust brake is pretty much totally lost. Look for any signs of sooty deposits under the hood in the exhaust area. If you don't see any outward signs you may want to look at your coolant level in the overflow bottle. there have been a few that managed to crack the EGR cooler itself and have pressure leak out into the coolant. While we're on that subject do you have any deletes performed?

Or the shaft on the brake is sticking, not allowing it to close completely.

Any feedback would be appreciated. Could be as simple as a bad sensor. There is a back pressure sensor in the Exhaust manifold that may be telling lies to the ECM...

The dealer had my truck for a few day and determined the EB is working as advertised????? They updated the flash and gave it back. I will need to keep my eye on this as I do not agree.

They flashed my truck and my mileage went into the toliet? Seems to do this everytime they upgrade my flash. Prior to the upgrade my mileage was 15.1 hand calculated and now it is 13.2. Driving conditions have not changed?

The EB works better the higher the RPM's you keep. Downshifting is a must. The tranny only locks up the TC in 4-6 normally. If you engage the tow/haul it will hold lock up well down into 2nd I believe. If you're coasting in from highway speeds, say 50-60 to a stop in just OD or even 5 on A/Stick, it will seem to not function because the TC will come out of lockup and the motor will drop to idle. No braking assistance. I had a Jacobs on my 06 w/manual and I downloaded the manual from Cummins. It said optimum working range was 2400 to 3100 RPM. It felt like something was going to break but it would slow the rig quick. Same thing on these 6.7's Hope this helps some.
