Engine Light and Ticking Sound

This is my first post here, and unfortuantely it's not a good one. I previously was an owner of a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500. Bought it new and traded it in for a Shelby mustang in February 2008. I wish now that i'd kept it. Well, the sportscar didn't do it for me, so in November i bought a 2008 Ram 2500 4x4 with the 6.7.

Now for my issue. The truck now has about 6000 miles on it, and around 5800 miles, i noticed a ticking sound in the engine. When rpm's increase, so does the tick. It's a very noticeable sound. The engine light also came on around the same time i noticed the ticking sound. I drove it to the dealer and let them take a listen. We parked my truck next to an untitled 6.7 on the lot and the other truck had the nice quiet idle like mine had when I bought it.

So, as I'm typing this, the truck has been at the dealership since last Thursday. I called the service department to see if they found the issue. They said they still cannot find where the ticking noise is coming from, but said they think it's what's causing the engine light to come on.

Any suggestions?

Chris

Well....upon further discussion with my dealer yesterday, they haven't even looked at it yet (they've had it over a week now). I guess that's why they say they can't find the problem. I've used this dealer since 2001 and had no problems with sales, service, or parts. Now that they have a new service manager, service department is horrible. I know the dealership owner and will go have a chat with him on Friday.

I know I would have a little more than a chat.. Thats a shame. Its not easy or cheap to go a week without a vehical especially if you have to rent. Its one thing to just come out and say we are extemely busy or short handed and have your truck for a week and do nothing. Its another to just give you the run around for a week. And then tell you the cel is on and there is no codes and they cant find the problem. And then tell you they havnt even touched it yet. For some reason I forsee a free oil change offer in your near future. And maybe a hat.
