EGR block with DPF

I have heard several people talk about after deleting the DPF and not blocking the EGR, it smokes like a turned up 12v. If this is true, why can't you block the EGR and leave the DPF in place? Just curious. If the EGR is causing all of the extra particulates, the DPF would actually due less regens instead of more. This would also be easier to get around in shops for warranty reasons ( harder for techs to see for non motor warranty items). Curious to what everyone would think since everyone who deletes the DPF first says they smoke alot until the EGR is blocked. Thanks.

There are lots of discussions on this subject right now all over the net. Right now the big thing is to simply unplug the brown connector going to your EGR. I did it a couple weeks ago and saw a huge mileage increase. Initially you could not do this because if you had one of the older flashes the butterfly valve in the truck's intake would default to the closed position and the truck would not run. Well, sometime in one of the latest flashes Dodge made it default so that the butterfly stays open if the EGR gets unplugged. Especially in the 07s you need to make sure you have the latest flash and then just unplug that plug. You will see an instant mileage increase of 3-4 mpg. Many, many guys have done this for months, with the DPF still intact, and had no ill effects other than the CEL and code you throw from the EGR being unplugged. Intake and exhaust temps are down and most that have monitors like the Attitude are seeing about half as many regens.
Seems like the perfect mod to me. Cost = $0.00. Gain = 3-4 mpg and slightly better performance. Truly "PRICELESS"!

And if you have a problem, you just plug it back in.

So do you live/look at the code all the time, or can you erase it for a bit, then keep erasing it? thanks

The EGR code is always there and so is the CEL. It doesn't bother me anymore. It's just telling me my engine is still there...
You cannot erase the EGR code since it is unplugged and there is no fooler for this yet. They are working on it though.....
I still get codes for the DPF delete and I guess yesterday I had amassed enough of them that the computer thought I should take the truck in for service(That's what the OH was telling me). I cleared the codes and all is well again, for now.

If you haven’t done it you should! Remove the aluminum intake and look inside!!
You will be amazed at all the soot buildup. My truck only had 6000 miles.

I blew mine out with the air hose. I also blew out the grid heater inside the head. I looked like a chimney sweep after that.......

I have deleted the EGR system, and Today, I ordered from Bay Area Diesel Performance, Gen 1, 5” Turbo Back SS Exhaust, and Edge Juice, for $1850.00
They said that this will not get rid of the EGR codes, But in a month or so, they will have the new Gen 3, which will.

You will have to pay for the code free box plus a core deposit on the Gen1 boxes. They want those back because they know you could just hollow the DPF out and use those boxes and the truck would be just fine...

H&S is working on the same thing too. I'll probably do the same once they perfect it....

Well I unplugged mine yesterday, at about 68 on the freeway, it was saying 20-20.1, which is'nt bad. today pulling my 5th wheel back home, it was 9.9-10.2 at 65mph. Thats what it was before the unplug. Probably just plug it back in.

I unplugged mine yesterday also. I have only been able to drive in the city and it reads 15.4 mpg avg. Thats better than the 13 mpg i was getting. I may have subconsciously been feathering the truck to see better mileage but i figure a couple of weeks and i will be able to tell.

I pulled my trailer around town for a few miles today doing a small household move. Towing mileage looks to be about the same as before judging by the OH. If I could just drive and not constantly have to stop at every redlight then I am certain it would go up though.
