Easy fuel filter changes gone

The easy fuel filter changes of the 3rd gen trucks are no more. The new one on the 6.7 engine is in a canister like the older model trucks. After looking at it for a while I went to the dealer and looked on their computer at the way they say to change it. Ready for this? Take the left wheel off and the inter fender out, drain the fuel, disconnect the wires at the bottom of the canister, I guess they are for water in fuel or something, take a filter wrench and remove the canister. That wouldn't be to bad, it could be done from the bottom if you had 4 ft arms, but there is a screen than has to be removed and cleaned that is in the "head", the part that the canister is screwed into. I don't see how that can be done from either the top or bottom. Probably through the wheel well would be the easiest, if not the quickest.

I believe Prime-Loc had a filter relocation kit for the mid 90's model trucks, so I'm sure someone will come up with a way to relocate the fuel filters on these trucks, but until then, it will not be nearly as easy to change the fuel filters as it was. Oh well, what is it, one step forward, two steps backwards.

Hopefully that's the only thing Dodge pulls a Ford on...

Only thing other than the highway, that is.

Are you kidding me? Who engineers this stuff? What a bunch of morons. You pull the right front tire to put a alternater on my wife's Saturn...NOT TO CHANGE A FUEL FILTER ON A TRUCK YOU IDIOTS! I can't believe this....

thats about a load of crap, so much for carrying a spare with you and pulling over to swap it out if your truck starts runnin like crap......

Hey EB,
Wouldn't happen to have that filter number handy would you?

I saw a 5.9 ISB on a Ford 650 with the Fleetguard FS 19596
(Cummins #3954904 on it and i'm thinking it may be the same?

I think the cost about $30

That's one thing I really like about my 06 is how easy the fuel filter is to change, kinda makes up for the hard to reach oil filter. Is the oil filter still located in the same spot on the 6.7?

The 05183410AA number is the one on my truck.

And I thought Ford's under the driver's door was crazy?? The Dodge boys obviously design the truck, and the Cumins guys design the engine(same old story). My brother says-don't worry, in a couple of years they'll redisign it(yeah- right!). Just like the air intake through the fender of the truck!

I thought one of the best ideas I saw was someone on here redesigned their air intake through the fog light hole(Except that a lot of us have fog lights). Then if you mod your intake, pumps, tranny, or even your fuel filter to make them better, safer, etc., they have an excuse to void warranty!
