Dually or not too Dually ?
Dually or not too Dually ?
Hello,
First post on a truck forum. Not sure if this is in the correct place to ask my question (6.7)so please don’t flame my first post.. [Laugh] Just real quick, I have been reading about the Dodges for a few weeks and I want to thank everyone for the great info.
We pull a 31Ft in closed and full it’s in the ball park of 12-15K.. We will probably keep this 'new' truck for many years. In the next few years we would like to move up too at 40 / 45 fifth wheel unit. (motorcycle business)
I crossed the US about 4-5 times this last year and probably 5-6 times this year. Were not looking at the 4X4 .
We are looking at the new 6.7 3500 with the six/auto, Mega-Cab Dually. I know that the standard truck (two back tires VS four) will easily pull what we have now. I would maybe like to 'over' buy so don’t have any regrets if we jump into something much longer and heavier. I know that MANY of you would have the info I need and im asking for your suggestion. I like the dually for the look and I know it will pull a train, but is it just over kill to the max?
Question: Should we get the Dually 3500 6.7 Mega-Etc........ Or should be probably just get the standard 6.7 3500 Mega-Etc ? All the same but the 'dually'.
We are going to buy next month and I look forward to hanging out on the Dodge forum and actually OWN one next time!!!
FYI, thanks for the info on the "Best place to buy" we have a deal worked out now looking to save about 10K as we stand (depending on the responses of this post) Thanks again !

Buy a dually it a lot better pulling that 31 foot with the extra wheels back there. The only reason I got rid of mine was because I don't pull any more so I didn't the extra tires. It makes a different in the ride I think when you have a load behind you with the extra wheels back there. That my opinon

It seems like a good idea if you are pulling really heavy. But is that all you do? I use my truck for many tasks and the only time I think a dually would be good is towing heavy or hauling very heavy. The rest of the time it would suck for me, like when I'm out exploring off road, just driving around unloaded, fitting it into tight places, buying tires, carrying medium loads, trying to get maximum fuel mileage, paying the registration, etc. So, definately get it if you need it, but be careful you don't get something that is much more than you'll be happy with in the long run. Bigger is not always better.

THIS IS VERY TRUE when I got mine ...I got it because I haul heavy horses and heavy NON-LIVE loads...BUT, try to park these Dodge Dually in the city or town , or at the mall... They are a LARGE vehicle...and WIDE !
parking can be pain sometimes.......
but I have found that people dont like to ride directly beside you on the road. they are scared of that fender, and if they do like to ride next to you just ease over a little bit and they will either speed up to get around you or slow down! that fender can be intimdating

For a large bumper pull trailer I much prefer the stability of a Dually. For a fiver I prefer a SRW. I only use my truck 50% for towing and pull mostly a 5th wheel 13,500# therfore I like the ride of the SRW.

I see in your SIG that you have both types. Is there one that you really like better than the other (only about the dually part)... I understand that both trucks maybe serve a different propose but any big pro/con ? Thanks again for the info! All these post are useful to use right now.
