I've seen that one. I was talking about my truck, not a ford. Don't think I'd want to drive that one beside a LPG tanker. I know for a fact you would never get on a drilling location with one doing that, and I wouldn't want to.

True. It's bad enough we are subject to that bs, but they even try to trash the Duramax too. Last I saw, the Duramax has prooved itself to be a whole heck of a lot better than theirs. D-max hasn't been without it's probs, but still...

As much as I love my dodge, I have to credit where it is due, there is nothing wrong with a duramax, they are good reliable engines, have proven themselves over time, and have good power. The allison tranny is a proven performer too. Now thier rearends kinda suck, and such, but they sure due ride nice,,,, considering it is cheaper it is a tough call

They have one of the weaker rearend gears out there, but for my purposes they are strong enough,,, but if you are going off road or putting them through the punishment that the oilfield guys here put them through they dont stand up. Most of the oil guys here drive either dodge or ford,

uh, you do realize its the EXACT same axle as in the dodges, right....?

The ford rear axles have a 1" smaller ring gear, IIRC, if you want to talk about strength.

the GM and dodge do have different 'lockers' in the rear. The GM uses a Gov-Lock and the dodge uses a trac-rite. Otherwise they are the same axle, I dont know where you get the idea that its "the weaker rear end out there".

my mistake, sorry,, maybe it is to with the gov lock, I do know that here in the oil patch that not many guys run the chevys, for a multitude of reasons, one of them being rear end issues.

well, I can just say that my chevy rearend feels at least as solid as the rerend on my dodge. Now, the frontend is a different story....I get lots of feedback and noise from my chevy when I go into curves, drive on bad roads and so on...however, I think there might be something wrong with it (when I bought it new the driveshaft was loose and something with the steering was wrong) me thinks that the dealer didn't fix it right...

I just drove a 3500 SRW Quad cab 6spd auto this afternoon. I like. The transmission is pretty cool, I even ran the gear picker. If I had an auto (47 or 48RE) I would be trying to figure out how to get an ATS built one (when they get one done).

No I would be trying to drop a built 68RFE in place of a 47 or 48RE in an older truck.

Gm's ride nice but after about 20k they start to squeak everywhere. I had three Dmax's and all became rattle boxes....I have 200k on my Dodge and it still doesn't rattle even when I have crap in all the pockets and crevices...No comparison when it comes to work truck. If I was looking for a strictly pleasure truck for comfort the dmax would get my vote if it was 10k cheaper...the 6.7 stock will be hard to beat for years and years. ks

I guess each truck is different... my d-max is a lot quiter than my cummins..no rattling or anything (except for the frontend issue mentioned earlier). the Cummins has 19k miles & the Dmax 23k miles on it.
