I've changed out the fuel filter 6x and only on the first did it light the water-in-fuel light. Don't know why, maybe something in the sending unit. I wiggled the unit and 5 good starts later it went out.
Forget about getting anything out of the drain tube. You have to turn the **** practically all the off to get any decent amount of fuel to drain out of the hose. I've stated before, when I change my fuel filter I have to break the filter loose by a couple of turns to drain the filter so as not to spill it all over, but then I'm changing the filter anyways, not just trying to drain water.

GMScott,
I was much more successful in draining the filter my second time. Someone in another forum told me to turn the key on (do not start the truck) and then drain the filter. I used a 32oz bottle, ran the tube in and turned the key on before I loosened the drain valve. The fuel drained much better and with considerable less mess.

riddler I also noticed my light on after the update. I told the dealer the other day when I had my high idle activated and they were stunned to hear this. OH my. I thought I was seeing things until this thread.

if i can remember correctly there was guy on here that works at a dlrship and he stated that this would happen after the update so i wasnt alarmed that it came on. Had i read the part about the light in the owners manual i would have been alarmed, but i just always figured if it needed to be drained the light would stay on while driving it or something...
