Does the Insight need the EGT probe to monitor the regen process? If so, how difficult is it to install the probe?

I think this will answer your question.

http://www.edgeproducts.com/product.php?pk=81&pvk=248

I'm thinking this might be an afforable way to get data rather than the more traditional route of pillar guages.

Question? This is just a monitor, not a performance enhancer? So, this shouldn't void any warranties?

Isn't much help...

Maybe I'm dense, but I don't think that paragraph on the Edge site is very helpful...

In addition to all of the parameters that can be displayed, diesel owners can purchase a thermocouple probe that connects to an additional sensor port on the OBDII connection and display EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature). Or the same connection can be used to input a wideband 02 sensor. And for owners of new diesels with diesel particulate filter (DPF) traps, the Insight displays DPF regeneration status.

Does anybody with the Edge get any DPF info without the probe?

Sounds like it's a laundry list of additional things it can do...

What would the wideband O2 sensor be for?

Yes, you can display not only regen status, but the load in the DPF and the temp off of two cat temp sensors (I'm thinking one is the cat converter, and the other is the DPF temp).

Looking through the installation instructions I didn't see anything about displaying the turbo boost. That would be the icing on the cake, along with trans temp.

The only thing you need the probe for it EGT reading, nothing else. Yes,it also reads Boost without additional wiring.
Only monitors stuff not a performance enhancer,my dealer liked the idea of the running Insight
The Insight is not glitch free,my truck will not display boost, throttle position or engine load correctly with the Cruise Control on,maybe its just because its a Cab & Chassis truck, also the MPG reading is not correct on the Insight. Make sure you update your Insight before plugging it in.

On mine it seems like you can select "boost" from three or four different places, about half work. Same with trans temp.

Which do you choose Truck Trans temp or Trans oil temp? Seem the trans oil temp is alot higher than normal (trans temp warm- 132; trans oil temp- 260)

I'm using Truck Trans Temp, and it seems like it's probably about right.

The probe is for EGT. I would like to get that done, but DC would not cover my exhaust manifold for warranty. I thought the manifold is like 1/2" thick where the probe is supposed to go. My main concern is the Turbo, if it goes, DC might not cover that because of the drilling of the manifold.

I heard you could loosen the turbo and place a piece of cardboard between the turbo and manifold to catch any shavings from the drilling.

Anyone done that?

I'm less than excited about the Edge Insight. The selections of what you see are criptic. It never did show me what gear I was in...out of the 3 gear selections, 2 say N/A and one says Drive...duh! I know it was in Drive! I was hoping it would say what gear I was actually in! Also, I observed Regen 3 times since I have owned the Insight (temps and lower mileage) and the thing always said Not Run on the Regen Status window. I bought it to monitor the emissions, but now I have an opportunity to get rid of my truck, so I guess I won't be needing it anymore.

DO NOT use a 5.9 filter on your 6.7. there is a reason they changed the filter. You can suck in a 5.9 filter enough to where you get unfiltered air into the turbo and engine. Just use what cummins puts in there. If they use a bigger filter, then there must be a reason. Makes sense if you think about it.

As for seeing the regen, im not sure how that insight works, but ways you can tell if your truck is in regen, is if you start seeing higher than 1000 degrees on the #3 exhaust temp sensor. If you also see a thing that says "Delta Pressure", that is reading your pressure on both sides of the DPF. If it is a high number, like 5.0 to 7.0, then you have a pretty good restriction in the DPF, either ash or soot. a number under 2.0 down to 1.0 is better.

Edge insight

I'm very interested in one for my truck as I soon will be pulling 15,000 lb fiver and would like to monotor the truck. Not all that excited about doing another pillar mount job for gauges. Was at dealer yesterday for oil change and talked to service writer about the insight. He claims anything that plugs into OBD MIGHT affect warranty. Says had 2 cases where insight shorted and fried computer. Not sure he really knew for sure as he was one of those guys who always spouts the company line no matter what you ask. Any one know FOR SURE about this.
