DPF regen monitored by Edge Insight

I'm interested in the Edge Insight to monitor my truck. The web site says that it will monitor DPF Regeneration...I'm wondering how it does that. Does it tell you how full the filter is or does it just tell when the regeneration is taking place?

The idea of waiting until the truck tells me that the filter is almost full is crazy to me...I'd like to know sooner so I could have more time to do something about it.

Are there any other ways to monitor the DPF?

Yes it can tell you how full the filter is, how long it has been since regeneration and when it is in regeneration plus a lot more. If you take the time to learn how to use all the functions.

Thanks for your reply Ron.

I have another question, if you don't mind...I noticed in your sig that you are running an 5.9 air filter. I have read about doing that, does it make a huge difference? With the price of diesel, I might give it a try to get a little better mpg!!!

Have not noticed a big change in MPG with the 5.9 air filter. Here at my dealer the 6.7 filter costs $55. Can buy the 5.9 filter from Cummins for $19.
I did however see a 20% gain in MPG when I altered the exhaust system which was the main reason for purchasing the Insight. The Insight ( clear DTC function) allows the truck to run without CEL's and overhead messages.

Thanks again for the reply.

As much as I would like the better mpg's, I don't think I want to violate the laws...

I believe I am going to get one of those Insights though...

I'm kinda disappointed that our trucks don't tell us regen info. You'd think this stuff would be standard on the overhead display.

Mine checks for regen status, time since last regen (in seconds), complete regen, incomplete regen. Too bad it does not check the temp of the dpf.

So how far can you travel between regens? We have an 07 Jeep Grand with the 3.0 CRD, and it has the DPF. I've got the Dashhawk, which is alot like the insite, I think. We travel 750 miles between regens, almost to the mile, and the last one lasted 6.4 miles. My Dashhawk does have cat temp on it, it runs from 1150 to 1300 degrees when it regens.

When we first bought the Jeep, I think it regened lots more than it does now with 14,000 miles on it, but I'm not sure, wish I would have bought the dashhawk sooner.

The main reason I am interested in the DPF is that I do not put many miles on my truck. I had my last truck for 4 1/2 yrs and it only had 30,500 miles on it. At that rate, will I be putting enough miles on this new truck for it to effeciently go through regen? That's a good question...how often does it regen and how long does it take to do a full regen cycle?

Check out the MSD Dashhawks.......they read the regen features also.

From what I've read, I think they read the temps as the regens are working.

I was thinking of getting the Quadzilla Commander. Is the Insight better? I'm interested in monitoring the EGT, Boost, and Transmission Temps. But the additional info of the Insight sounds great. Do they sell an EGT probe and a Tranmissions temp probe?
