death wobble. Any ideas???

I have a 2007 dodge 2500 lwb. it has a 1.5" leveling kit in the front. the leveling kit has been on the truck for 50,000 miles and showed no signs of death wobble. I replaced all steering linkage about 2,000 miles ago including the steering damper. After replacing the linkage i drove it strait to the alignment shop and got it aligned. It has only had death wobble 2 times the whole time i have owned the truck and those times have been in the last 2 weeks. Any ideas?? Ball joints check out good.

What kind of tires are you running and what shape is your track bar in?

Once it starts, you will get it more and more often. You can do all and any of the 'recommendations' given by the dealer, none of which will solve the problem. Nor will the dealer be able to fix it...there is no oem fix. Here is what you need to do to end it immediately....

I had the same issue with this death wobble nonsense and spent way to much time and money trying all the suggestions, ie. tire rotation, pressure, tire sizes, ball joints, new steering damper, alignments and so on...finally spoke with a guy that had it on his '06 2500 4x4 and he turned me on to these guys at BD...I bought these two items and have not had any death wobble in 70,000 miles now, and I spend alot of time towing on the highway.

That oem track bar is non-adjustable and junk. The location of the steering gear box causes the transfer of the 'wobble' up the steering column as the axle shakes violently side to side...install these two items and your problem is solved!

Freind....I am no expert on this subject. However, I feel I am certainly qualified to answer your question considering the issues I had with my truck (DW).
I have roughly the same set up on my 07' truck as you. After looking at all possible options (ball joints, steering box stabilizer, track bars, etc...) I ended up simply taking off my BFG all-terrians and switching to Mickey Thompson MTZs. I have had not only the Mickey's on there, but have also run another 20K on a set of Nitto Trail Grapplers that I currently run. I have not experienced the slightest DW after getting rid of the BFGs.

In short, I would take those tires off and go with something diffrent. I know these trucks have thier issues with front in stability. But I have run into way too many guys that had DW with these tires, took them off, and never had a problem again.
Again, just my opinion. Good luck...I know it is super frustrating!

It could be the tires might not be. There have been plenty of people having dw with other brands including the stock michelins. It is usually some worn front end part or parts and bigger tires exagerate thy problem

i just di a new trac bar on mine, it got rid of the death wobble. i also put on the steering box stabilizer, just to firm up the sloopy box.It was the trac bar that fixed it, not the steering box, but the stabilizer helps in other ways., wouldn't spend twice the amount though on a bd, got min from http://www.dodgeramsteeringstabilizer.com/

To add to the links the other DTR Members already gave you, here is a LONG THREAD from our own website on this issue. FWIW,.....there are ALOT of causes of DW and each truck seem to respond differently.

Here is the link for you:

Those are D rated tires right? I would go to a proper E-rated tire.

It's the tires....

If you can look back at some of my posts, you will see how I sorted it out. The tires you have were developed specifically for the Hummer H2. It will happen with those specific BFG's every time. After 30 to 40k on the front of our trucks with the weight of the Cummins it breaks down the sidewall of the BFG. Basically turning it to mush and stretching the internals to make it an excellent basketball when you hit an expansion joint at 70 mph. Trust me, My wife refused to ride in the truck until it was fixed. I contacted Sage at Carli suspension and after explaining my set up, he advised me to get either a set of Toyo's or Goodyear....I believe AT/S's. I'm now on my second set of Toyo MT 35x12.50x17's, and have not had the DW since. Over 140,000 miles between the 2 set's of Toyo's. I did add the Carli adjustable track bar, but only after the tires had fixed the issue. The track bar definitely made the front end more solid and stable, but I believe the tires are the trick. I can't say enough good about Sage Carli and the fact that he told me how to fix my issue without selling me anything. Good luck...
