well, I bit the bullet & decided to go ahead & try the power pup, have been waiting for some time for the Smarty to be released & will continue to wait & prolly pick up a smarty as soon as they come out, but heres my take on the pup on a cab & chassis w/6spd. manual.
first off had to go to the dealer & get a new flash for it to load, drove home w/out the pup & mileage went from 13.9 mpg when I pulled into the dealer, to 18.0 when I pulled in the driveway, about a 50 mile trip or so, after trying to download the pup it said "unknown vehicle" so I got online & loaded the newest version which was 2.1.4 well the place I got the pup from called back & said I needed 2.1.3 to run on the cab & chassis, but I figured what the heck, I'll try the .4 first, loaded it all up & put it on the preformance setting & took it for a spin, first off the throttle was so touchy it was almost hard to drive, kinda like you were either giving it all or nothing, no good smooth in between at all, & then I noticed after she warmed up & I got into the fuel really hard this thing sounded like it had about 30* too much timing, sounded like a dang thrashing machine, so I pulled over & decided to try the "tow" tune, got it all loaded up & went for a drive & I swear it has more power on the "stock" setting???? & most of the rattle was gone unless you really stab it & at exactly 2500 rpm's it gets the rattle back??? not as loud or annoying as on the performance tune, but still very noticeable!!! decided to take it back to stock & have the 2.1.3 version put in!
this a.m. I went back to the BD dealer & had them put the 2.1.3 version in the pup, mind you this only took about 2 hrs the stupid thing would get almost loaded & then freeze up, but anyway got it loaded up put it on the truck on "performance" & headed out to test, & the throttle was nowhere nearly as touchy, but it was still bad enough that if you set the cruise it would almost jerk as it was adding fuel & then letting off, like it was torn between.... go,stop,go,stop,go,stop?????? after a couple miles I had to pull over & load the "tow" tune, again the throttle was alot smoother than with the 2.1.4, but there is still some timing rattle????? I suppose that's what it is, at 2500 rpm's & above? & I'm still not so sure that it doesn't have more power on the "stock" setting than the "tow" setting???? my mileage is hovering at almost 19mpg now, but the new flash could be the reasoning for that??
all in all, the power pup was pretty much a $500 disappointment, this may or may not be the case on the regular pickups, but with the cab & chassis at least it's just not what I expected?? I wish Edge would get the bugs worked out of the Juice for the C&C I really had high expectations for it as well, but after BETA testing it & giving them tons of feedback about the problems on my C&C they finally just quit answering or emails or returning calls, I thought that's what the testing was all about???? I know there are alot of people out there (myself included) that are dying to get our hands on a Smarty, but I for one think that taking more time in developing a trouble free product beats the heck out of my experiences with the two above mentioned products, I know the C&C's are alot different, & I know there are way fewer C&C's out there, but y not just say "no it won't work" rather than send out this 1/2 finished junk????? I really hope the Smarty is all it's cracked up to be & I can't wait to try it out, sorry for the long post, but maybe this will help someone in the future from making the same mistakes I have!! Sorry to hear that. The edge on the regular truck is awsome with no problems what so ever. As for the bully dog have heard nothing but good for it that sucks they dont work well on the c&c I would maybe try getting the mp8 also is that power pup for sale.
Well here is my story, there was shop selling the power pup for 400 and free shipping, so I called bully about the programmer and asked if it would work on my 4500, they of course said yes it would, well it DOES NOT. So today I received my bully dog power pup, and was like a kid in the candy store until, I tried to load it in the c&c, it said I needed another update before loading, so I called the dealer and they said there was no update. So I get back on the phone and the tech from bully said we did not say that you could use it on the 4500, so I said yes you did....... Anyway now they say they have no programmer for the 4500 or 5500 and there is no scheduled release for this truck. So I am going to try it in the 2500 that I have and if it works I will pull the mp-8 and install it in my 4500.
So they did not make any points with me and will never purchase from them again as they point blank lied to sell a product. Let’s go Marco!!
