4WD Manual Shifter?
4WD Manual Shifter?
I'm going to purchase a 2008 6.7
This may be trivial to some, but my old truck had a manual 4WD shifter - something I prefer and is not available on the new trucks (IIRC the exception is the Power Wagon).
I generally like to keep my vehicles for a long time, and I may consider installing the powerwagon shifter in the future. I have heard about reliability issues with the auto 4wd, on all of the trucks.
Anyone else thought of this, or am I just worried about nuth'n

So can a manual t-case even be ordered, or were there just none on the lot?

I think the "Manual Shift-on-the-Fly Transfer Case" is only a standard feature available on the powerwagon.
This tells me that there is a trim/boot to accommodate a manual shifter in the truck, but the question remains how to adapt the transfer case to accept a manual linkage. Is the case in the 6.7 the same as previous years?
Like I said, I think the auto transfer case is a potential point of failure on any make/model truck. I'm all for electronics everywhere else - I just rather have a truck equipped with PT-4WD have a manual shifter (full time 4wd would be a different story).

I took delivery of my truck 4/07 and shortly after that you could not order a manual shift transfer case. I don't know why they stopped shipping the manual shift, mine works great. Been using it everyday for 2 months because of the snow.

I have the manual shift as well. Once less thing that can go wrong (it still CAN go wrong, but I'll put my trust in steel, iron, and aluminum, before someone's shoddy wiring or programming).
I think you can get the NV271 manual shift on the fly transfer case in the base "ST" or "SXT" trim packages. I'd price it out online to verify.

I'm set in my ways, I got the manual shift too. The other is probably OK but I just felt one less thing to go wrong. I know if my automatic hubs ever go south I will replace them with manual ones too.
No real help for you, my Ram has the manual shifter,
But the electronic transfer case shifter in my wife's 2004 Durango Limited has been working fine since the day we bought it new. Been switching from All-wheel drive to 4x4 (Low & High) and back fine for 3.5 years so far (knock on wood)...
