Best RPM For High Idle?
Best RPM For High Idle?
Hello again, friends. I'm still working on enabling my high idle the correct way but the weather's turned cold & blustery & I think I'll wait for a warmer day. Temporarily, I've been making do with an adjustable curtain rod between the seat and go pedal when I want to enable it (Hey, works pretty good after you get the hang of it
).
My question is: What RPM's are considered "high idle"? Should I keep the engine at 1500 RPM or is a lower setting OK? I'd like to idle at the lowest recommended RPM's and still prevent sooting up. What say you?

i'd run it in the 1200 range. but good lord, you can handle some inclimate weather for 15 minutes to get that wire done!!!! seriously this is bordering on ridiculous! it's been 3 1/2 months ago since you inquired about the high idle. many of us have given our thoughts and time to your questions, but you seem to ignore the advice given. what's the real problem? this is a truelly SIMPLE procedure.
Mastercaster, thanks for the info. Yes, I've been dragging my heels regarding the high idle enabling procedure. I guess it's just fear of screwing something up. To tell the truth, I did remove that plug assembly in order to get a better look at the wires coming through the firewall and wasn't able to locate that elusive green wire with the heat shrink cap that was shown in the photo. I looked in exactly the same spot as in the photo (in my other thread). Assuming that the wire is part of this harness, my next step will be to cut the tape that binds the wires together to see if it's hidden there. I should be able to get to it in a day or so.......
My truck builds cabin heat nice & fast with the high idle around 1100 to 1200 rpm with the exhaust brake engaged.........seems as if much more than 1200 rpm and the exhaust brake does not engage when cold.

i am just giving you a little crap. i hope you don't take it to seriously. anyway, i am pretty sure that wire wan't a part of the harness. it is by itself coming through the firewall behind that harness. look behind and just to the left of the 2 bolts next to the harness. no need to cut the tape. that wire comes through the firewall and is probably only about 4" long.
