before i buy
before i buy
Hey, new to the forum, hopefully you guys and gals havent seen this question too many times but here it is:
Looking at buying ( very soon) 2008 2500 6.7l 4x4
looking on the net, and consumer reports, its looking like its not the best desicion.
Im not overly concerned about mpg, it will mostly be hwy, hauling 2 snowmobiles on a sled deck
it has 70000 kms on it (43495 miles) listed at 30000$
have any of you had, or heard of may problems? besides bad milage
it has factory powertrain warranty remaing until 160,000kms
, and I would probably buy an extended.
Is this the first year they started with the new emissions, and having to go into a regen mode ( i think its called?)
if so how often does it go into this, what happens when it does, ect
I think I have heard of people saying these trucks shouldnt idle, But being in canada and snowmobiling i would like to have it running while I load the sleds in white out conditions
Any help would be great as I am looking to make a purchase withink a few days
Thanks

I've got an '08 3500 and haven't had any issues with it. Mileage is a bit less than a 5.9L. Mine gets me 15.5 MPG, but I was running at 75 MPH so I blame speed and air resistance for this. I suspect I could get better if I kept my foot out of it but that's really hard to do.
I plan on getting what I need for deletes and as soon as the warranty is out, so are the emmissions junk.

Its kinda hit or miss on the stock trucks, but if its under warranty and your gonna keep it that way, have all the updates and flashes done, and make Dodge fix what is broke.
When you can, delete it all, youll be much happier.

Not to hi-jack the thread but I am looking to upgrade my 2006 soon as well. I let my mega idle when I am loading or whatever, but I always idle mine up. Can you idle up the 6.7 trucks, and is it ok to idle them up if you delete the emissions junk?

Its not technically straight idle time, but I have had mine run non stop with extended idle periods of 4-5 hours for many 14-16 hour days.
No issues.

LOL that's awesome. Me and the woman stay in ours for a few hours at a time when we take the long road trips, and I can't stay awake any longer. Works perfect. Crank up the high idle, tip the seats back, and nighty nite. I sleep so much better when its running, than if I shut it down and sleep.
Since I have an 06, I can't answer your question about regen frequency, maybe someone else will.
