Just a question, when I am towing with my 6.7 and 68rfe, when the trans, down shift's under load= 14,000lb fifth wheel, @ 60mph the rpm's increse to 3000 or so from 1800, then drop back to 2000 in two stages, is this normal? Only does this when towing and running hard.

 

Mine does it too. Must be the Torque Converter unlocking for the downshift then re-engaging. It seems excessive to me, I try to down shift it manually before I get to the hill if I can.

 

I try to down shift manually also but sometimes I get lazy[lol], hopefully someone will tell us that it is how it is supposed to work.

 

Mine does the same thing as well. I have been using the manual shift while towing a lot as well and it works very well.

 

Yep, manual shift that thing. Remember fifth is still an overdrive gear and it's probably going into fourth or even third depending on the speed. Hooked up I will use fifth unless it's all flat interstate, then it'll get sixth.
