Any Problem Running Engine 1-Qt Oil Overfilled?

I had my oil changed recently and didn't realize that 13 quarts were used instead of 12. Would there be any problem running as is or should I just remove one quart? I'm not towing right now and will be running the truck solo for the next few months, if that makes any difference. I'd rather not go through the bother of removing the excess oil but will do so if you guys advise. Thanks in advance....Ed

These engines do not hold 13 quarts regardless what your dipstick may look like. 12 quarts only as per Chrysler and Cummins. Too much oil in there and it'll foam up with air bubbles that starve your main bearings of proper lubrication. Drain it...

I think I'd drain it too. Just for piece of mind. A whole quart extra could be enough to do damage.

I agree, why go through the worry of wondering if damage is being done. Drain it.

First of all fill in your sig so we know what you have under the hood, How do you know there was 13 added instead of 12 did you see this done or did you do this yourself, If you own a 6.7L you can put the proper amount in and it still will show overfull, I believe it's a dipstick problem myself, since I'm not the only one out there having this issue.

Actually, I'd be careful with the 'just change the oil filter' suggestion. If you don't fill the oil filter with oil before you place it on the filter mount, you basically dry start your engine. When you start it, you have to wait for the entire filter to fill up from the oil pump before you have ANY oil pumping to the bearings. This takes longer than you think. Just a suggestion.

It's a mistake I used to make all the time until a friend/mechanic pointed it out to me. And it makes sense when you think about it...

Yeah, I forgot to put in my sig (it's below). Thanks for the replies. I'm going to look for one of those pumps that can remove oil via the dipstick tube. Failing that, I'll just drain it from the bottom and hope for the best. I think I can just loosen the drain plug enough to let oil drip out until I reach about a quart, if I'm careful.

Loosening the plug slowly/carefully will work good enough. Wasn't beating up on you just would hate to hear of the engine messing up.

Problem Resolved!

On a whim, I took the truck to a local quick lube place and they offered to remove the excess oil for FREE. They immediately took the truck in and removed enough oil from the oil pan to bring the level on the dipstick to the "full" mark. Of course, I gave the tech who performed the work a tip in appreciation. Thanks for all your replies and helpful suggestions. In the future, I'll be real sure that only 12 quarts goes in the engine. .

When I bought my '99,I brought it into a Jiffy Lube here. The oil kid proceeded to tell me that the Cummins took 15 qts. I showed him the owner's manual and 11 qts('99) went in there. I've done all my own oil changes since. I'm not the most mechanically gifted guy,but basic maintenance is on me.
