Another de-soot question
StarSCAN® Documentation Kit is a set of instructions to the technician on how to download and install the latest program upgrade to the scan tool, then how to update the PCM on the truck. It just looks good on the invoice to list internal dealer nonsense.
You will be experiencing this soot issue forever, even with the EGR disconnected, as the cause is low combustion temperatures because of low engine loading. Disconnecting the EGR only prolongs the agony, and only for drivers that load up the engine and really pull it once in a while. Commuters that run a mostly empty truck will have just as many soot problems as ever, and a lot more as the engine gets farther into its life.

So what is the solution? I have an 08 with less than 500 miles. Use it as a comuter during the week. Some longer trips on weekends. Will sit six months, while I go to Iraq once again this winter.
Anyone using Lucas fuel stabelizer?
Any suggestions?

Additives are not recommended as they may cause the filters to clog even quicker. The solution? Start losing parts or just plan on becoming very familiar with the service dept at your dealer. On the other hand, there are many many trucks having no issues at all. Most of them get driven hard all the time. It seems it's the trucks driven easy all the time that are having the issues mostly. I doubt you will have any problems leaving the truck sit for six months. The filters won't clog if it's not running...
And you will get a lot better fuel milage! My uncle has a 2008 3500 quad cab dully and he gets empty 25MPG and up!!!!
I won't expect that kind of mileage but I won't complain if I get it..
My last partial tank netted me 17.7mpg where I NEVER got more than 13mpg before. (No highway driving) My current tank is reading about 1 mpg less than that but I'm still happy with that. I haven't had a need to get on the highway yet so I don't know where I'll be there. My overhead was strangely accurate after unplugging the EGR too.....

It sounds OK but the 6.7s have a "HISS" to them as they run. I don't care for that too much but it seems to sound better once you get going down the road. I will have to get my wife to drive it up the road so I can hear it like the rest of the world does. It's really hard to tell when you are driving.....
I didn't notice any difference in power but it actually does have some sound coming out of the tailpipe now and, of course, the mileage is way up....

Those are risks we are all taking. Most of us keep all the stuff we have pulled off and will just reinstall if the need arises. I doubt you would have an issue with a safety inspection unless your state is really tough. Here in Va they pretty much check the brakes and lights and don't worry about the exhaust unless it's loose or leaking.... You will NOT pass an emissions inspection.
Warranty will depend on the dealership and the problem you are having with your truck.

If my truck had any soot and running the exhaust brake helps clean it, mine
should be bright white after coming down Wolf Creek Pass in CO. this AM.
The EB is just awesome. I just dropped the transmission down into 4th
and crossed the divide (Pagosa Springs look out). The 68re, EB and trailer
brakes did the job until we got to the cut backs then I tapped the truck
brakes. Molly (the dog) was impressed. The DW just held on for the ride.
The view was awesome.
The truck has 15000 miles, has been desooted and is on its second turbo. The mileage is not great but steady.

I agree with Dodgezilla,
, but on the 07.5 model you can't just unplug the EGR you have to do a delete which involves removing the Butterfly valve in the intake manifold. EASY to do and WORTH IT!!!!
DUMP the DPF, and take a day to put it back on for emission testing. You won't regret it. Go ask you local dealer what they will do about warranty first if you HAVE to have the warranty. I think you will find that they would rather not deal with this crap anyway so will look the other way.
Now, the REALITY. I have donated my DPF to the cause with an emission tech company and we cut it open to see just what is going on inside. YOU CAN'T REALLY CLEAN THESE THINGS, AND THEY KNOW IT. Regen only turns the soot into ash, and the ash will accumulate in the back of the DPF. Most of the outer 1-2 inches of the DPF is hardly used because of the configuration and the center 4 inches is what does most of the filtering. My DPF was on the truck for a little over 7500 miles and already had burned a hole about the size of a walnut in it, and had about 2 inches of ash packed into the back end. They are not cleanable when they reach capacity and will have to be replaced. To the tune of about $3000.
If this isn't enough to make you pull it off, along with MUCH better fuel economy, AND HUGE performance gains, than you will spend a lot of time waiting for your truck to receive back ordered parts and a lot of fuel doing the STUPID REGEN DE SOOT THING.
HOW INCREDIBLY STUPID IS THIS!!!!!!

BTW. NO additives and ULSD is all meant for extending the live of the DPF. At the expense of shortening the life of all other parts that need the proper lubricity. I now use CI-4 rated oil and fuel additives to replace the lubricity removed during the refining process. Truck is twice the truck it was when I bought it now and a blast to drive.
Stock except emission delete, 5"turbo back exhaust system and Edge Juice w/ att. Dynoed 266 with juice off, 385 with juice on 5 and NO SMOKE, darn.
