Air filter cover latches

Well, I pulled a dumb one the other day. I opened the air cleaner box up...just to look around a bit...curiosity thing. As I was putting the lid back in place, one of the catches/latches popped out of the air cleaner housing and fell to who knows where. I heard it hit metal, butI couldn't find it anywhere on/in the truck. I went to the dealership's parts counter, thinking that I could buy one. Guess what...they're only available if you buy the whole air cleaned box.

Now what? Anybody have any ideas that don't include going under the hood of another truck and "acquiring one???

thats actually a really good idea-go to the dealer that told you ya had to buy the whole airbox & take a new one for a test drive....they'll never miss it.

other than that, maybe you want a cold air intake?? that would fix it..though it wouldn't be cheap.

Maybe someone on here with a aftermarket intake that has their stocker laying in their garage might lend a latch...............

Not all dealers have them but they are individually packed and sold for about a buck each. I did the same thing as you, had to drive 35 miles to the closest dealer to get one. Bought an extra for an emergency and learned to always make sure they're "curled" up into the box before opening or closing the box.

Is your quick lube place a national franchise? If so, could you tell me the name?

When I stopped at the dealership, it was over lunch and the regular parts guy was away from the counter. I'll try back when I know that he's there. While I was in there on the first trip, we looked up the filter box and the computer showed the clip as only being available when purchased with an air box. I part-time at the parts counter of a powersports dealership, and I've seen this happen so many times with small pieces of Honda, Yamaha and Ski-Doo hardware that I accepted it and walked away. I guess that I shouldn't have.
You wouldn't happen to have a part # off of the parts that you purchased, would you?

Tried this route again this morning...talked to the regular parts guys and had no luck...even looked at 5.9's and V10's...all show that they're only available as part of the filter box assy. If anybody can give me a part # off of what they bought, I'd appreciate it. I guess that I'll make a trip past the NAPA store tonight.

That test drive thing is beginning to look like a viable solution. Maybe I could find a truck that also has a coin holder in it.........

I have an airbox from an 05 5.9

I do have an air box for an 05 5.9 setting on a shelve in the back room. If the latches are the same let me know and I'll send you one. Sold my 05 and left the cold air intake on it. I'd compare but my wife took the new truck today.
