Is the 6.7 right for how i drive
Hey guys,
my 02 has an IP failure and i am thinking of just trading it in before the thing totally fails on me. i was wondering if the new 6.7L is the right truck for me or if an 06 with the 5.9L is a better choice. i live in town and commute about 7 miles round trip to work, and on the weekends i drive at least 150 to see the GF. so with the 6.7L give me a hard time with all the city driving i do along with short start and stops? or is a 5,9 better for me?

Actually, a Honda Civic is probably better for you... 
Just kidding. I love my 6.7L compared to my 2004.5 5.9L. No problems driving around the DC Metro area (except for fuel costs). Your weekend drive will take care of any DPF regens, so no worries.

I would have to agree about the 6.7, going to be expensive to run all week just doing short distances. I drive mine Wednesday thru Saturday, only doing maybe 3 to 6 miles a day. On my weekend, Sunday thru Tuesday I run a couple hundred miles round trip and have never had an issue with the DPF. In town mileage is low, 13 ish, getting just under 18 on the highway right now.
i dont really tow either i have a boat that is less than 5K but just like the diesel feel and power i am hoping to ride a bike to work for the majority of the year so the longer weekend drives would be the norm, are the 6.7L good to sit for a while like a week or more and not be started??

I've owned both 5.9L and 6.7L. Both of my trucks were within two MPG of each other. However, the 6.7L with the six speed auto is hands down more powerful and smoother than the 5.9L with the four speed auto. Personally, I would not let two MPG be the deciding factor for you. Drive both and see what you think.

I'll second the Civic option, (find a nice used one with a 5-speed) and get a $1200 IP & VP-44 for your current truck, avoid another truck to pay off, and save some $$$ for fueling up. I drive an Accord 95% of the time, and the old 12 valve the other 5%. By next week, and Nighthawk 650 some of the time as well.
i wouldnt really drive it in town, i live close enough to work to ride my bike or motorcycle, it would be a snowboarding/skiing rig mostly and to haul the boat to the lake, that is the extent of my towing right now mostly highway miles and in the mountains

The 6.7L diesel has some issues with turbo and emissions components. I would get a 5.9L has less problems at this time. Now is time to buy new truck only pay $3 a gallon for fuel for three years. Save $4500 at current fuel prices. Diesel goes up to $6 or more per gallon more savings.
Keep your '02. Replace the I.P. and install a fuel pressure guage if you don't already have one to prevent IP failure from a faulty lift pump.
Your truck engine should be good for a minimum of 250K, and you'll probably get close to 200K on the tranny the way you drive.
I assume it's paid for, and it does everything you need.

Just my $.02. My favorite CTD is my daily driver, a 1993 with only 155K on the odometer. It gets 20 MPG unloaded city or highway. It doesn't have a bunch of computers so very little to break.
For towing, the 6.7 is terrific.

Well after some soul searching i decided to keep my 02 and just fix it, in the long run the new one was a lot more truck than i need and i dont haul anything more than a boat, now i just need to fix it, i do have a quad 3M box i get 20.5 on the interstate all day every day, actually she thought the truck was a good idea
