As with all information, it's only as good as the truthfulness of the person that posted it.
I think the Cummins has been far better then the Duramax with the new emissions stuff. There are lots of duramax owners that are having problems with limp modes, problems throwing codes, and pulling off their DPF's for better mileage.

Based upon 2010's challenging diesel emissions standards against how well Cummins motors have generally performed in the past, I wouldn't own anything else especially, if I was faced with buying first generation technology.

I guess right or wrong, my confidence in their product sure is high.

I've read the many threads on MPG and speaking for mine it's still about what my 06' 5.9 was getting maybe, 1 MPG less. A winner powerplant in my mind (so far).

I'm in the market for a newer truck. It sure is not going to be a 6.7. Its my opinion, the 2005 Cummins is the best thing out there right now for mileage and power in the stock format.

I agree, I sure wouldn't go back to a 5.9

6.7 has my vote

I have only had 10 other Cummins Dodges before this one, this 08 still beats my 01 6speed mpg's most of the time. I have driven two 08 LMM chevy's both 4dr longbed 4x4 3500's one got 11.4 mixed city hwy for a week of driving and the other was one day on the highway it got 13.7(both from the onboard calculator). A little less than what I get in the 08 Dodge. The newest 08 fords can be had with 3.55 gears, they are showing around 14 on the onboard mpg calculator from what I have seen.

Those numbers are all HORRIBLE. Makes you almost want to buy a gasser in a new truck unless you are ALWAYS towing. What are people that have done the Thing We Can't Talk About to the 6.7 getting?

My off road components put me at 18.6 mpg 70 mph up from my all time best of 13.2 and towing I went from an average of the previous 7 trips of 7.2 to 11.4 and all of the three recent trips had much heavier loads. When off roading and loggin 8-10K miles per month that adds up to a lot less wasted fossil fuels.

The truck sure is dusty looking from all the off roading.
