1st Tow with Dad's 03...the Good and the Bad

Well we were finally able to hook something up to my dad's 03 last night which was unfortunately my 95 which decided to have engine issues that need to be fixed. Thats the bad part The good part is my dad's 03 towed my truck like it wasn't even back there total weight about 8500lbs. The truck averaged 15.6mpg and wasn't even breaking a sweat. The truck was able to pull a 6% grade at 65mph in 5th gear and multiple smaller hills in 6th at 70mph. We could of went faster but we didn't want to lose my truck off the back of the trailer and since the trailer didn't have any trailer brakes we didn't want to push it that much. Overall, myself, my dad and good friend of mine who is a die hard Ford owner were really impressed because the truck never seemed to lack power and there was always plenty of pedal left to accelerate. In fact my Ford Powerstroke owning buddy said the power of my dad's truck was awesome compared to his 97 stroker. Dodge and Cummins did a good job with there product. By the way we pulled my truck from Colo Springs to Trinidad which is approximately 132miles.

Joe

Ram,
If I remember right, there are two decent grades going south on I-25, one by Colorado City and one by Walseburg. If you pulled either one in 5th with that load then I'm impressed! ;D

The Boss Hog
(I can pull any grade in Florida in 6th )

The steepest one which is Greenhorn just after Colo City is a 6% grade. I was able to pull 65mph in 5th but that was the only one I downshifted for. I was really surprised that I didn't have to downshift for the one by Walsenburg since I actually think that grade is harder to maintain speed up. I pulled that one in 6th at 70mph and even passed up a 02 Stroker pulling about a 25ft gooseneck with 10 barrels on it. The poor stroker looked like it was really struggling since it was smoking like a train. Oh yeah by the way I almost choked when I read your comment about downshifting in Florida. Too funny

Joe
