6.7 Check Engine Light

My parents picked up this new truck and it has a little over 1000 miles on it and it's almost home and the check engine light came on. It stayed on steady and then the overhead display beeped and said cansister full and catalyst stat 90%. I called the dealer and their diesel techs are off. Does it need to go into the dealer or is there a way to fix it? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I had to tow it the house and Roadside towing has to come pick it up. They said it has to go to the dealer to be fixed. Sure am glad I bought my 06 now.

It sounds like it was idling a lot or lots of short trips. I may have been able to be cleared by running down the highway under load.

Sorry but...that's a load of crap, that engine should be able to idle all day or travel in stop and go traffic!
So now you have to do what the Truck needs vs what you want?
Leave it up to the Goverment and Emission Laws and the Computers to screw up the once simple, reliable, Diesel Engine!

*Note to self..self, don't consider the 6.7's...and...never own one out of warrantee!

They picked this truck up late Saturday night in Idaho and came into Colorado this morning. I'm not sure how one would make 1000 miles in a total of 14 hours of driving in short trips and idling. This thing was only run out on the highway. They said it ran great the whole way until the light came on shortly after 1000 miles. Tow truck picked it up and took it to the dealer, we'll see what they say tomorrow.

Same thing happened to mine, got up to 'Cat Stat 100%', and the engine de-rates the output. I drove it home and then next day the service mgr told me to drive it in to the shop. A few minutes down the road and the overhead said 90%. It dropped down to 30% before I got to the dealer.

They drove it another 30 miles or so and it cleared up. I'm not sure if they cleared the error to get the check engine light to go off, or if it went off automatcally.

I'm thinking there is a problem with the passive regeneration on some of these trucks. They should be doing a passive regen while your driving around, even if it's not on the highway. Seems that my truck just skipped the regen until the cat was up to 100%. Then it decided to start the regen. Time will tell if this happens again.

If you would have said that in the first post on this topic it would have been a lot clearer. All you said was it was a new truck with 1000 miles on it. If you really want help, I suggest loosing the attitude.

I wonder if they got a tank or 2 of LSD instead of ULSD! There are some places like Flying J that still sell LSD so you have to take care when you own the 6.7 engine as its legal to sell LSD for on road use until 10/2010.

The dealer says the particulate filter was full. They are having trouble getting parts and a replacement gasket that Dodge says they won't release any until June 5th. There was a regional Dodge guy in the dealership today that said this truck is one of about 60 trucks nationwide that have had this same problem this early and they aren't sure what caused it to clog up. The dealer told us that the 1st regeneration should happen around 1800 miles. Is the process supposed to start off sensors or a set schedule? No attitude here.....just stating the facts.
