Smile Ok I bought a new truck

Mr. long winded here again. Ok, now I’m in trouble, I bought a new truck today, ouch. Big purchases hurt some times. It’s a 07 2500 SLT Quad Cab 6.7L Patriot Blue with the 8ft bed and the new automatic Trany with 408 miles on it. Nothing special other then the 6.7L and step bars. I hope very soon after I get a second job, I can start accessorizing it.

I am still old school because I do not have a digital camera to take pictures and post them to show it off, pathetic right? As soon as I can I will post some pictures. I think it will be soon.

Anyway I do not have a full report for you yet because this weekend has been busier then I can remember and I have not had the time to even put any miles on it other then what it came with. I just drove it home and started working around the house, darn it!! You know how the honey do list’s start to build up after a while . Anyway I hope to start to drive it a lot starting tomorrow but so far with just the test drive and the drive home I am very happy. It is very powerful, to me anyway and everything is pretty smooth considering it’s a diesel truck or a box of rocks as I used to call them before I was a believer.

This post does not justify how much I am excited that I have a truck that can pull houses off there foundations, I’m just too tired to write it any better then this.

I will say this, thanks for all the info and thanks for being nice to a newbe.

Hey by the way, I believe in RTFM, so I will read the manual, but if there are any pointers on anything like breakin period, safe to tow after how may miles, or what ever you want to tell me. I guess most of this I can search for like I supposes to, but if you want please any pointers would be great.

And Yes, I need to change my signiture below, I know and I will.

Thanks, More to come soon.

First, congrats on the new ride; the more you drive these things the bigger the grin on your face gets. As far as breakin advice, you'll probably get a bunch of differing opinions. I have always followed the procedure in the owners manual and never had any issues. The recommended breakin procedure in the manual is not for the motor really, it is for the rear differential. I also am looking at a new ride soon, as my youngest son is wanting to buy my current truck from me. I know what you mean about the honey-do lists, i have been unable to do any for several weeks due to a herniated neck disc making my left arm almost useless. It is slowly returning to normal so I'll have to tackle that list soon. Enjoy the new truck.

Hey Dave, Congrats on the new ride!

As far as break-in, I just bought my new '07 3500 Laramie DRW 4x4 last week. As we were camping 200 miles from home when I made the deal. Dealership had my hitch swapped to my new truck with 300 miles on her and we pulled our 11K 5'er home with us. Sales and service manager said no break-in needed. You can bet I got it in writing though.(for what it's worth).
Good Luck! Lynn

Hey everyone.

Although I have not been able to drive any long distance, just back and fourth to work in the city, I LOVE THIS TRUCK more and more. I starting to get the perma-grin. I took my dogs for a ride in it and they love it as well so I guess it's a keeper.

This weekend I intend on going some ware with some distance to keep it cleaned out because I only work 5 miles away and I'm not sure what that will do or not do. I do not let it idle hardly at all but you never know. Maybe I'll drive up 90 to see how it does or maybe down to Portland and Back.

I'll probably wait untill the end of July to tow my trailer because I have a week long camping trip planed but you never know I may get a wild hair up my you know what and shoot our for a week end or something. I need to set up my weight distribution hitch on the new truck first and also adjust the brakes on the TT as well. No bid deal, that won't take long.

Thanks

Dave A

Dave,
Congrats on the purchase. I am new to the site and bought my first Dodge truck two weeks ago. I got the 07 6.7 auto drw 4X4... it is by far the best diesel i have ever driven. I agree with you on the towing, i am a little weary on pulling anything with my truck just yet. I figured ill get a few thousand miles under its belt and then start hookin it up. Everyday i drive my truck in continues to impress me. Hope it does the same for you!

Only recomendations I know of are in your manual. No towing for first 500 miles and light throttle for next 500 miles towing miles. After that go for it and nothing more to worry about. My understanding is the first 500 start breaking in and seating the ring and pinion gears and the next 500 finalize it a bit more.

Good luck and enjoy
