bought a new truck

well, went and got a new CTD. i miss the manual 6 speed of my old truck but this truck is sweet. my question is this, my driving will be city and hiway pulling my 19' airstream that weighs in wet no more than 5k lbs. how should i use the "tow/haul" button? also can i pull this airstream with cruise control and overdrive?

never owned any automatic so i am in the learning mode.

thanks,
david in socal

It doesn't matter HOW you pull that Bambi. Your truck won't even know it isthere. Are you a WBCCI member?

WBCCI

hey smokee,
no, i am not a member of the wally club.

so if i understand you i won't even know the trailer is there? this is good just so long as it is there. what about the OD and cruise? will the tranny struggle in OD going up hills or is the 5k not enough weight to work the 48RE?

Greetings: I pull a 23.5 Arctic Fox fifth wheel that weights about 7K. I have pulled the trailler over the passes in Montana and the auto doesn't shift, I don't loose any RPM or drop a MPG. Like the previous post, you won't even know it's there. I got about 12 MPG pulling the trailer and about 16 to 17 emply. The tow package is good seems to look the converter and I use in going down hills. The one thing that was hard getting used to is not being able to compress the engine down hills like in my gas vehicals. That is why we need to get the bugs out of the exhaust break and trans lockup.
You will like the truck, I know I do.

I only use my T/H when it starts to hunt. I'm pulling 10K# and on a good grade I've had it start hunting once or twice. It's rare though.

Use the tow mode. On a 05 truck it will still go into OD but the tow mode holds each gear to a higher RPM before it shifts so you have more power going into the next gear.
