6.7...any years to avoid?
I've been looking at a few 6.7 trucks to buy, and all of them are 2007's with 100k+ on them. Is the 2007 year a bad one? How about the tranny? I figure if they already have that many miles on them then all if any problems have been worked out for now. Thanks!
I've got a first year 6.7 and once the emissions "opportunities" are dealt with, its an awesome machine. There are a few on here (like Scotty) with high mileage 6.7's that towed heavy for many of those miles and no issues. If you turn up the wick, you will have issues. So far I love this 6.7. My dad has a 05 5.9 and there is no way I'd go back to that (good truck, don't get me wrong but the 6.7 with 6 speed is great). The 6 speed auto with engine brake seem to always be in the right gear also. They got it right with that transmission!!!
"fixed all of that with programming"?? Meaning factory reflashes or a programmer I have to buy. I can't lose the emissions stuff and I plan on keeping it stock for the time being...I need this one to last me 10+ years...
So then if all the flashes are up to date then it should be just as good as the rest? I drove one and really like the tranny/EB combo and the power was great (compared to my last 2 trucks) I just want to make sure it isn't going to be riddled with problems...
However, you should look into an aftermarket programmer and some deletes to save fuel and eliminate any future emmisions issues if you are looking to keep this one. This is the single most highly recommended thing to do! You can keep your stock stuff and put it back easy if you need to.

That is a good point. The more I think about it, the more I can do the deletes and then put stock back on for the inspection. As far as I know, where I live the inspection is visual only and not emissions. That would work out well. It seems that a lot of people love this motor, I just want to make sure that getting one with 100,000 plus on it isn't going to be an issue.
Do the flashes from Dodge cost anything or are they free?

I bought a late 07 about a month and a half ago and so far I love it. I have a 30 foot travel trailer that it pulls like it's not even there, the only semi negative I've found is that it's a little thirsty, especially when towing but that's to be expected with a 8000 pound sports car.
The latest flash that I know of is the J35 and it's a recall so it should be free.
If you look at the top of 6..7 performance board Blake has a very good write up about the deletes that can be done, and the DTR store has all the parts for very reasonable prices.

Yeah I am thinking about it, that tranny and EB is a big one, especially since I have a 30' travel trailer that I tow as well. It looks like in my state the only requirement is that I need a muffler. There is no emissions testing that I can find. Sounds like there might be a 6.7 in my future!
You will love it. As stated, the J35 is a recall on the emmisions so it will be done if not all ready done (yes it is free). If all checks out, the big miles would not worry me and it would be just about broke in by that time. The megacab is awesome along with the rest of the drivetrain. It is a towing machine. Thirsty still, but does a great job of it. The muffler has nothing inside so it is not a restriction at all and you can leave it on there with a delete pipe for the Filters...

Check under hood for a label should say J35 Reprogram PCM dealer code and date done. I usually stick bottom side of hood on the left side. You could call any Dodge dealer and they can run your vin to see if it was done if there is no label under hood.
I have a 07.5 with all the deletes I love this truck ! Pull a 40ft toy hauler in the summer. The motor looks good too after all the egr stuff is off. The only downside I can see it take a little longer in the winter to warm up because the coolent isnt runint through the egr cooler.
