i dont know how ppl could go back to the 5.9 after driving the 6.7 with the new 6spd auto, unless they just drove a lemon, that i would understand.

But go drive a normal great running 6.7 and then a 5.9, i think the decision will be clear. It was for me and thats coming from some one that was planning on buying a new Duramax, my Dodge will be here late next week.

i have a 5.9 there is nothing wrong with it. it all just depends on what you want. I mean there both a cummins engine I dont see how it could be bad. the only thing that kept me from buying one was all the emissions stuff on the 6.7 . they will get worked out in time.

Dont get me wrong the 5.9 is an AWESOME AWESOME engine just b/c its a tried true engine. If i had the choice i would have got a 5.9 with the new 6spd auto. The 6.7 6spd auto just FELT like a smoother better combo then the 5.9 4spd auto.

Other then the new emissions crap i think the 6.7 is just as good as the 5.9, but only time will tell

I have had both,5.9 and my 6.7 that I drive now. Noooo comparison. But my 5.9 was a 98,but I also bought it new. The 6 speed is awsome, the e-brake is too. The problems will be worked out. I have had the CEL twice. Once I had to go to ******* next time it went away on it`s own,no dash code. So I will wait and see..............Over all I Love this truck.

Have you driven both trucks? Power is minimal, 6spd tranny is cool for a stocker(who knows how much power it will really handle). Emissions crap is what's causing all the problems, read ALL of the owners manual, you'll find new things you'll have to do that we've NEVER had to do before to keep our Cummins on the road. You need to read ALL the 6.7L threads and decide for yourself. Look into gas milage, and service issues. Not many 6.7L owners are going to admit they wish they had a 5.9L, I wouldn't either but I've put plenty of miles on both. My next truck will have to be a used 06 or early 07 5.9L. The fact of you saying you will chip it leads me to believe you better go w/ what works w/chips, the proven 5.9L. Nobody has enough experience w/a 6.7L and mods to even talk knowledgeably about it. Good luck and hurry if you want the 5.9L!

I too had this same delema. I had an 05' 5.9 and thought I wanted to stay with the 5.9. After thinking about it for about a few weeks, I couldn't think of a good reason not to.....So, I hustled down to my dealer and traded that 5.9 for a 6.7 with 6 spd auto and never looked back. I'll admit, I decided hey if i'm trading in, just as well get the latest and greatest right?

Well, If your one of those that decides you want a 5.9, you better hurry. Not many of them left in my area anyway, mostly SLT's and drw's if thats your thing.

like my new 6.7!

To add what I already typed. I previously owned a 5.9. Loved the truck. Test drove a new 5.9 and then 6.7. There is NO comparison whatsoever. Despite any problems that I may have and I know they will get all the bugs fixed, I smile every day I hop in my truck and put my foot on the gas-

6.7!

I love the truck to death, even with the problems it is NOT the 6.7 it is only the emissions for the new trucks. ALL trucks will have to have it from here on out. I enjoy driving it everytime i get in it. I have the manual just because i like them better. They are smooth and straight get with it for a stock truck.

If you do get one just get it in your head that you will have probly see the CEL within 5-10K. Ive said it before and i will say it many more times. I was USED to the CEL with the 5.9, hell it conditioned me to it and reading all the posts on here made me even more prepared for it. It all works out though and it can only go up from here, things will be fixed soon. Intakes are out for them, chips are out for them, exhausts are in the making. Wont be long and we will have some pretty sweet options!!

Trust me "the juice was worth the squeeze"

And another note i am getting consistant 15.6 mpg tanks out of her +-.5 mpg. Two weeks ago on a trip to Nebraska i got 17.2 hand calced and i was going 80-83 most of the time. Most of my driving is city and interstate with stop and go at least once a day. Cant wait till she breaks in.

Got 4000 miles on my 6.7. CEL come on twice with no codes and went off after a few starts. I absolutely love my truck. PLENTYof power, alot quieter than my '03 5.9 (although some people like'm a little loud) Tranny smooth as silk. IMO the 6.7 is the way to go.

Love my 6.7, stock is was great but the new mods its just so much more fun to drive when you really want to mess around. the be able to chirp the tires in second on a basic not to extreme program puts a smile on my face. And I have a 99 lightning that will smoke the tires for a block so thats saying alot.
