I would hold onto your brand new 5.9 and trade to the 09's. Their is nothing wrong with what you have. The 6.7 will be fine, it is just getting the emissions problems taken care of. Most are great. I have driven the 6.7 with auto and it will pull my 5.9. I am still stock and dont care about being the fastest person anymore. Someone will always be faster.

Buy a 5.9L and build the tranny, it will then be everything a 6.7L can't be............until the aftermarket figures it out! I'll put my 03 w/ stock fueling and built tranny up against a 6.7L any day. I think that's fair, built 48RE vs. 6.7L and all those gears.

Good Forum. Appreciate everyone's candid and objective opinions.

Plan to order an 09' in July to replace my 5.9.

I stayed away from the 6.7L because of the ULSD requirement and all the emissions stuff.
That being said I also did not even test drive one because I knew that i'd want it after driving. So I walked into the dealer and came out with my 07 3500 5.9.
First year runs for that much equipment are never the smoothest transitions and I just can't afford the downtime with my job.
I'm still staying away from test driving one though because like I said, i'm sure i'll want it after.

As for your question, It was very hard for me to decide as i had a pick of the liter for the same price, i could have had a 07 lariet fully loaded with the 5.9 with the auto. I did decide to do the 6.7 cause of the 2 extra gears. My job is hotshotting so im preying that it doesnt break on me. I do not want the manual as I would of got the manual if i did the 5.9. I think most cases are solved with the latest flashes and this new auto tranny is AWESOME. So far i am very happy with my decision and everyone I know who has the 5.9 says WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWw that is nice. If you are worried about the new emmisions, i bet there will be a turbo back exhaust that will get rid off all that crap within the year with no codes being throwed. With that being done, i bet you would gain a good 100 HP and 150 TQ from that alone. Along with 2-3 mgp also. If you are not a hotshotter, I would for sure choose the 6.7, if you are a hot shotter, that would be a tough choice as I did nonstop research between the 2 as you are. Once I decided between the 2, then it was the auto/manual choice, then the 3.73/4.10 choice. With that being said, just look at my sig!!!!! Good luck with your decision as both truks are very, very superb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I chose the 07 5.9, couldn't bring myself to deal with all of the emissions mess.

I got rid of my 6.7 for an 07 5.9 . To many codes, melted mud flap, it burned some dry grass pretty bad, (didnt ignite but came close) and last of all really bad fuel milage esp. towing. As in 8 ish pulling less than 4k. I did like the new 68re. Its a sleeper tranny. I just couldnt deal with all the crap. Hind sight is always 20/20.

I think the 6.7 will eat your lunch in a drag race even with your tranny. They are pretty quick stock or at least mine was. And i am not a 6.7 fan......
