2nd Oil Change

Truck just requested me to change the oil again @ 5500 miles. First one was at 2300. Whats the deal I was going to do every 5000. Should I just listen to it and do it? Or should I just keep on a 5000 mile schedule and disregard.

Thanks

I change mine every 3000 but I guess you could go the 5000, I personal wouldn't but that's just my opinion.

that stinks...the oil cost is going to get expensive if you switch to synthetic!

The 6.7's have a oil duration of every 15k. They used to be 7k. Im gonna do it every 10k though since I haul stuff everywhere. These aint no gas motors!!!!

As ccoup said, Cummins recomends changes light duty at 15K and heavy duty 7K. But I have heard that the new required oils do not hold up as well as the older oils. I'm not sure what Dodge uses to determine duty cycle for the notification to change but it can be ignored and reset. Something about tapping the fuel pedal 3 times with key on I think. If wrong do a quick serch here for how to reset.
On my 07 5.9, due to light towing, I have choosen to change every 10K miles after first at 5000. Already done differentals also at 5K. Now will go to 30K for next on differentals and 15K on engine oil. Fuel filter every 10K and air filter cleaned at 10K. Trannya t 30K also, filter and drop pan.

I'm not sure if the U.S trucks are different but dodge only recommends 7500miles or 12000km oil drain interval on the 6.7L says so in your manual, so I don't know how or why some of you are draining the oil at at 15000 miles synthetic or not i think there is too much soot in the oil to play around with a extended drain interval, unless you put a oil spinner on the engine, and the oil change indication is a calulation of idle time and engine speed i think, but i heard that there is a flash out to correct the oil change indication from coming on too early

I performed the first oil change on my truck at 3,759 miles with 92 engine hours on the clock. My "change oil" light has never come on my truck yet.

Mind did same thing , I changed it first time but consulted Dealer second time and they said to reset and follow manual. I now change every 5000 miles. They also tried to reset the warning code in computer but couldn't do it. There is no way I'm changing oil every 2400 miles!

7500 is what my book says, and that's sounds like a good number to follow. 1500 more miles for my first change.

Mine came on at 2300 miles as well.. The dealer told me how to reset it and that they didn't come from the factory set. You turn the key to on 3 times and then stomp the gas 3 times and crank it up.
