56k update

Wanted to update everyone on the EGR valve cleaning fix. First time was @ about 32k miles. Dodge has a special EGR cleaner solution. The cleaning was done by Dodge, on their dime.
Then the CEL came back on intermittently around 48k miles and then permanently @ 50k. Error codes indicated the EGR valve stuck open again!! Back to the dealer. This time, since I'm over 50k miles, the EGR cleaning is on me - $80.00. Tech showed me the valve and all the soot inside, however he did say that it was not as gummy as it was for the first cleaning. This time it was just soot which clogged the valve open. NO additives have been used since the first EGR cleaning, much to my dismay as the fuel out there is VERY inconsistent with performance in my truck. So, the first cleaning job lasted about 20k miles and Dodge is telling me that I'll probably have to include this procedure with the rest of the truck's maintainence. THANKS!! Just what I need, spend another 2 hours & $80.00 on the truck every 20k miles.
As far as everything else, the truck runs fantastic. The power is great BUT at a cost - poor fuel mileage. I guess I will either have to slow down from my usual cruise speed of 75 m.p.h. or just bite the bullet and accept that this truck will never get the fuel mileage I got with the 04.5.

Asfar as the cleaning goes, it couldnt be that hard to do it yourself. But why wouldnt this be covered by warranty( 5yrs-100k)? The truck is throwing codes under warranty, running ill under warranty, nothing mentioned in the owners manual about periodic maintenence of the egr, and yet you paid 80$ for warranty work? Did he atleast ask you to pick something up off the floor while he gave you the big surprise or did you just take it in stride. I'm sorry but this is probably a dealer you bought from in the past and they should claim it for warranty just to keep your business and a customer happy?

All this new Emissions crap is killing (all) the new smaller Diesels...not the big Rigs though , I wonder why?
I'm sure in time there will be a way to block, bypass or remove it...but ya didn't hear that from me. Better fuel mileage and no CEL lights.

Actually, this is the first truck I bought from them. I had 2 other RAMS which they wound up servicing. They have treated me VERY good in the past and I'm trusting them to continue with this one that I bought from them.
My only concern is that I don't think their techs are as up to speed on the 6.7l's but has anyone found someone who really is?? Anymore it seems I go to the dealer armed with more info than they have!! Thanks DTR!!

Hmmm. Wonder if a spray can of carb cleaner will do the trick.

Sure hope nothing happens to ruin my love affair with my '03. Because by the time it seems it will need replacement '07s and '08s will be 2 and 3 year old trucks if not even older!
