2008 6.7 with 1500 miles craps out

today after picking up the kids from school, we where sitting at a stop light and when the light changed I started thru the intersection and then no forward movment. Engine reved up and truck started rolling back. It will hold in park, go into reverse and drive fine in reverse, but no forward gear engagement at all. in fact if you put it in drive it will roll backward on an incline. Tried using the manual 1 thru 6 switch, nothing. No dash check engine lights or anything. everything else works great. I have felt that it shifts slow and hangs between gears somewhat, but I thought it was just the tendicies of the new six speed auto. After the cops blocked traffic I backed it onto a side street and waited for the tow truck. It's setting at the dealers now, wll be monday before anyone can look at it. Just had to vent, will keep everyone up to speed as I find out whats going on. 1570 miles and now this, only put the tags on it last week. ##&*^%$$$#@, should have keep my 06. Live and learn I guess. The mega cab is really nice though.

Update

just got off the phone with the dealer. Transmission is fried, internal parts failed. most of the parts needed are on back order, can't even give me a time frame to get them. I have never even had a ball in the reciever or a load in the bed of this truck. And to make it even better, because I did not purchase the extended contact I can not even get a loaner from them. I am livid at this point, guess its a call to my lawyer monday and then to the rental car place.

Usually on brand new which yours is the SELLING dealer will help or provide transportation as a courtesy. Is that where truck is or eleswhere? But they DO NOT have to provide transportation. If trans NOT torn down how do they know what they need.A lot of times on new design big assemblys like the NEW 68re engineering usualy expidites the part like a complete assembly to get you back on the road asap and request the old trans to be returned from them to investigate the failure. If it was JUST towed in did someone already pull the unit and pull it down or??? You need more INFO which to get everthing will be on a normal work day,Monday.Of course it may not get handled as I describede but I can't imangine any tech being eal familier with the innards of a 68re.Never hear of any failing.

68RFE is just a "big" version of the 545RFE trans that has been behind the Hemi trucks for years. If the trans guy is familiar with one, he can do the other.

We've only encountered one 68 failure so far, but it had over 200k on it and had been used hard.

Tech in a dealer near me does 1 to 2 autos a week.Few months ago he told me that he only had been in TWO of the 5 speed autos used in the gas trucks.Said it was bullet proof unit also. But I doubt on Saturday many decisions can be made about transportation and the real answer on parts availability.

update

Monday will be a big day. Selling dealer is going to tow truck from the dealer it is at now. Which was the nearest dealer to where it broke down. The nearest dealer is all road side assitance from them would pay to tow it to. I was happy to have it towed to the nearest dealer as I have know the trans tech there for years and Billy is as good as they come, One of my buddys told me he finnaly retired, but when we droped it off the first thing I asked is who is your trans guy and they said Billy. That was the only good news out of any of this as I was sure Billy would do it right. Now it will be towed to the selling dealer Monday and they will see about some kind of loaner. I have always owned dodge trucks 89 traded on 94, 94 traded on 96, 96 traded on 02, 02 traded on 06(my first diesel), and 06 traded on 08 just three weeeks ago. I have never purchesed the extended contract and have always gotten a loaner with no questions asked. Now I'm playing the how do I get everybody where they need to be Monday game I will update you guys monday after I find out whats going on. At this point my only leverage is the fact that my dealer survay came in the mail today.

You got the LOANER at your selling dealer.Usually the non selling dealer ain't loaning you nothing for obvious reasons.

update

They sent a driver out to get me and bring me to the dealer to get a loaner. While I was there I went to the shop to get some things from the truck and meet the tech working on it. He had the trans out,but had not started his dis-assembly. He said no one had even heard of anything like this happing to one of these transmissions. They have several they service with over 200,000 miles already and they never even hic-up, let alone puke there guts out. He went on to say that a lot of people are keeping up with it, because it's the first one they know of to do anything like this.

The dealer just called and the tech has finnished his dis-assembly. The underdrive piston was missing a plastic sleeve and that is what failed. They have turned in a request for the parts they need with a VOR (vehicle off road)order, which he says is there equivlent to a rush order, but still no idea how long to get one.

For those of you that don't know I work 3rd shift and have now been up for more than 24 hours, so don't bust my chops about the type-o's, I'm tired and have go get the kids from school ina hour and a half, so goodnight. I keep everyone up to date as I find out more.
