2007.5 Fuel Filter Change Procedure

I've tried searching, but the search feature doesn't seem to be working for me on the forum today. Tried Google as well and there is a lot about other years, but not so much for mine. Looks like Dodge did things a little different for my year of truck. You have to unscrew the entire housing rather than just a cap on top.

Hoping for some tips and tricks that might make the job easier. It doesn't look like you can easily get to it from inside the wheel well or from under the truck. There appears to be a drain hose, but I can't see from above where it leads too exactly.

I'm guessing a strap wrench will be needed and quite a bit of muscle.

On another note, anyway to clear the see dealer message without seeing the dealer? Tried clearing codes with Smarty Jr., but that doesn't remove it.

Thanks,

ben

For the ovhd: http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/6-...formation.html

There's a couple of ways to do the fuel filter. 1. From the wheel well. Remove the wheel well liner and you can reach it with a strap wrench or insert a 1/2" drive into the bottom and unscrew it.
2. From below. Lay on the ground and insert a long 1/2" extension into the bottom and unscrew it.
Both ways you need to open the drain first (I put a longer hose on it to reach into a drain pan) and just break the seal to let it drain. Once drained take off the hose, close the drain and screw the housing and filter off.
Most times the new filter has the directions included with it.

I've had the best success through the wheel well and removing the lliner which is very easy with several small screws. The 1/2" drive on the bottom sucks and never worked for me and just stripped out every time I tried. Strap wrench is the way to go.

Wheel well and strap wrench is the way to go. If the filter has not been changed in quite a while, there have been some changes made to the filter and housing, making it necessary to buy a new housing to fit the new style filter, although hopefully it has been changed over by now. NAPA and WIX are both Fleetguard filters. Available with or without new canister. Be sure to put a little motor oil on the new o-ring and do not overtighten.
