2007 2500 6.7, Is it going to be worth it?

I pick up a 07 2500 6.7 about a month ago. I'm a huge fan of the 5.9 also. The 6.7 pulls the horses in the mountains like no other. I had a strange problem after pull the horses on Monday. I disconnected the horse trailer and then went to go to a local store about a mile away. The engine was retarded then it would race up, started jerking, engine sounded like a 5.9. I stopped the truck at the store. About 3 minutes later I restarted the truck and it ran perfect.
I took it to the dealer the next day and they said no active code were showing. After more research the tech found a active code on the ECM. He said he reprogramed/updated the ECM. They said it was a computer glitch. Truck seems to be running fine now. Has anyone else experienced this?

I realize technology, regen and electronics are here to stay. I would never have bought the 6.7 if I had know about the regen process. (My fault for not researching). I have all the confidence in the world with Cummins however when it is the owners responsibility to have to drive a $30-40k vehicle to clear the soot and for the regen process, something is wrong with this picture.
So, my question to you guys who have much more experience on the subject is, should we hang on the these 6.7 or dump them before the basic 3 yr/36k warranty expires and go back to a 5.9??

I had the exact same problem with mine. Drove it to the dealer that way and shut it off in front of the service department. When they started it up again it ran fine, no codes.

Since then I have had it back to the shop twice for problems with the emission system. Both times the service guys could not tell me what exactly was the problem. First time they just cleared the error code and told me to drive it. Second time the Cat plugged up 100% and then started to regen on it's own before I made it to the dealer. They still don't know what happened??

I'm concerned with these problems but I have faith that it will be worked out somehow. Seems like it's just issues with the computer and/or sensors.

Dump them for what?? All the new diesel engines will have the new emissions and regen on them, doesen't matter what flavor, Dodge, Ford, or Chevy. If you are using your truck to go to work or the store, you might be better off with a gasoline engine. (much cheaper also) If you tow, --- your decision.

If you can find a good used one in three yrs, go for it if that's what your want.

You are not alone. I am interested in how they found the error code, as my dealership never found anything.

Good point on Chevy/Dodge and Ford going to the new technology. Diesel in Mountain Home Idaho is 40 cent cheaper a gallon than gas. It should not matter if we go 1 mile or a hundred. These vehicles should operate as advertised.

Basstex, I will get the work order later this afternoon and I'll post what the tech put on it as the code and fix.

Glad I bought my 5.9 when I did..I'm sure someday I'll have to get something new again but by then hopefully they have ALL the bugs worked out, just in time for the EPA to mess things up even more.. I guess I'm missing something here, the new trucks burn more fuel because of ULSD but are cleaner, then you have to drive an X amount of miles to clear a filter that is supposed to make the truck run cleaner. Isn't that even more fuel wasted?????

All I can say is use any 6.7L as a grocery getter by driving it 1-3 miles each way and see how well it likes doing such. Diesel engines were made to work not drive 1-4 miles to the store or work and then back home 8 hours later as you don’t get them up to operating temps driving them short distances and by doing so carbon will build up on the injectors in no time and cause problems.

Well, I was contemplating a new truck. The 6.7 my 1st choice, and the GMC D/A my second. I decided to get a pac brake for mine and a few other goodies.

rcotton--that would be great.

In defense of the new engine, let me say that I am extremely happy with the performance so far. It seems like it is just getting better. I have 3000 miles on it as of today and this little gremlin in the computer or ecm is not something that happens every day. It has happened 4 times so far with no ill after affects. I figured that it would have it's share of hiccups being new, but I also figured that the first run of these would be able to be programmed at some point, and that future versions would have more and more restrictions and gadgets to prevent programming. Not that it needs it, it pulls like a dream. I haven't had any emmisions problems, but then again, I drive it pretty hard and use it in a mix of highway and city driving, and I hook a 9000# trailer to it 3 or 4 times a week.

BassTex This is what the tech put on the work order.
Performance check DTC-None found. No sel. No related TSB.
Flashed ECM to latest level the code P0192 became active. Relearned PIN/VEN/Milage-code still active.
606 WD94
736 flash TIPM to latest level. Now no codes. Software issue. Road tested 14 miles and ran perfect. labeled hood.
I don't really understand it all but maybe it will help you in the future if you have any more problems.

Thanks for the info. Greek to me too, but it will make sense to someone at the dealership...I hope. The techs are my biggest complaint so far.

everyone seems so concerned about him driving it a mile to the store, but if you read his post he just unhooked from his horse trailer. i use my truck like alot of youll but no where in the owners manual does it state "do not buy this truck to go to the store"

if he wants to buy it to drive .5 miles down the road to get the mail everyday, thats the owners choice and the truck shouldnt have problems..yes i understand about the regen but it just came across to me that some were questioning his personal choice. i wish youll the best of luck with the 6.7s. im sure ill be joining youll pretty soon
