17+ mpg

Have close to 600 miles on the new truck. Last tank of fuel was used 75% highway, 25% city, got over 17 mpg. I had my foot in it more than a few times.

Is that hand calculated or overhead reading?

My best was 20.5 hand calculated and 18.79 while towing only after 20k miles.

Hand calculated, but the overhead was very close.

How are you getting that kind of mileage on a 6.7? Im only getting13 mpgs. My truck only has 1,500 miles on it though. Will I get better mileage later? Is there anything I can do to get better?

Yes, and YES!

You are not even close to what most would consider "broken in" yet. I got about 12.5-14 MPG's until I got about 5K on.

Easy on the skinny pedal is the absolute best way to save fuel, no arguments about it.

Best thing you can do for great mileage is cruise at the CTD's "sweet spot" RPM (1800-1900) and keep boost as low as possible.

My overhead, which reads .5 high, was reading 18 mpg at 70 mph from oceanside to sandiego CA (hilly) on sunday after I filled it up. Still at 1400 miles but it was averaging 13.5-13.8 until saturday. I drug the 12k toy hauler up and down some steep hills for 50 miles, under heavy throttle. After I dropped it off, i reset the overhead and saw an immediate jump in milage. I will be dragging the trailer to the east coast in the next couple off weeks which should really speed up break in.

I drove 1100 miles back home from the dealership and I got 15 mpg, hand calculated. I was running around 1800 rpm's. I also have 37's and a 6 inch lift. It was all highway.

You definitely have better mileage after break-in...

my best so far was Dallas - Houston 19.5 mpg in the '05: 37" Toyos, 9500#s GVW, cruise set for 70mph on the GPS (~ 1925 rpm)... no lift, of course.

Finally got into double-digits while towing 8k lbs. @ 74 m.p.h. Managed to get a whopping 10.5 m.p.g. hand calced. Overhead was about 1 m.p.g. off showing 11.5 m.p.g.
8,500k miles on the clock, getting stronger, although this truck was VERY strong right from the start compared to the 04.5.

Now try and tell me Dodge doesn't calibrate their overhead readouts to reflect a higher milage than actual. I don't think I have seen anyone with a stock truck say "My overhead consistently reads about 1-2 MPG lower than hand calculated."

I know they can do it--I have a Chevy company truck and it is within .1 to .3 MPG when hand calculated. It is so close over so many checks I just go by what it says now.

Why do you think DC would purposefully calibrate the overhead readout to artificially inflate the mileage numbers?

My 1500 hemi was right on by .1 or so when I checked it a couple times.

My Cummins is off by about 10% too high on the first fill up... Mine is a 5.9 though, just thought I'd add that factoid in. Although I'd need to test it a couple times before pointing fingers because it could be variations in pumps.
