'09 Dodge or '08 Tundra?
I saw a black(I don't want to own a black) 4 door Ford 150 4x4 pulling a big off shore fishing boat with a big, filled the box up generator in the bed yesterday on the highway.Good LOOKING truck, new, riding level, pulling at about 65 mph.Liked the look of that truck, looked comfy, looked quality and seemed to handle the load it had with ease.I even slowed down to get a second look at the whole rig.I first thought a boat that big needed a 2500 but that 150 didn't appear at its limit.Right now imports do suck in more ways then one.You can bet your butt that Toyota with growing pains has lost its quality just like the big three auto makers did when they got huge and rushed to produce and redesign to get product out.I see not much differance in Toyota then I did GM in the past.I have a friend with a Camry a few years back that fell apart in a hurry with SLUDGE being a huge issue.Toyota would NOT offer any assistance as they said lack of maintenance.(had 12k on it,couldn't see the rockers was sludged so bad)THEN it comes out later that engine was a huge sludge maker and was a engineering issue not a lack of maintenance issue. He traded it off in frustration to a Toyota dealer for a loaded Toyo truck(wife's vehicle) it was almost as much as his 03 2500 Dodge diesel was,got poor fuel mileage, had no guts pulling much of anything and had far more warranty claims then his Dodge. He was HIGHLY impressed with the Dodge 2500 Laramie and what he got for his bucks compared to the almost same $ for $ Toyota. If you don't like THIS country go try being a ALIEN somewhere else.
Our ancestors would roll over in there grave if they heard these dish's on american made auto's, After we beat them in war, they said they would get us in the financial side, foreign imports are killing this country, I know people with American made vehicles with un heard of miles still going strong,, foreigners have them too ,but not all, What happened to our pride?
My bud that moved back from Hawaii really emphasized about the prejudice that the Japs have about Americans over there.I was shocked at the issues he saw and had from grammar school teachers making his girls pull weeds during recess for three weeks to being in a grocery store check out line and a Jap jamming in front of his wife and pushing her aside etc.He said bad attitudes about us and arrogant. To hell with them and their economy.
I think alot of the American pride went out the door the day the Fed loaned out BILLIONS of dollars to the big 3. (funny thing is, I was in Hawaii glued to C-span turning red with rage as this was all happening).
Looks as if GM will be the first to file bankruptcy (the number I heard is they need another $30b by the end of march or their done) Once they file for BR protection, what will happen to the $15b they already got from us???
Golden Parachutes!

Hell, I lost my business this year, 6 years of blood, sweat, tears, and constant growing pains, all ended. So now my wife is back to work, and I'm working a 9-5 doing something that I get very little enjoyment out of making 1/8 the income that I once was.
These people will cry too, but they'll have to pick up the pieces, put a little pride aside and take on a job that they might not like for awhile.
I would have gone to work scrubbing toilets if I had to. (can't shame a working man)
Honestly i think if you buy a toyota your going to regret it in the long run. Fuel mileage, towing ratings all suck. Honestly i'd buy a truck a little bigger, with more power, better fuel mileage, higher towing rating. Go with one of the big 3. Once you buy a smaller truck you are really limited to what you can do with it. Support America, we all need to stick together if we are ever going to get anywhere and pull through.
haha its funny that you bring this up on a dodge cummins forum i would say keep to American made and go with a GM 1/2 ton if your just doing grocery shoppin with it gets the best fuel economy out of all the companies

Disregarding the truck brand - everyone has their favorite - It sounds to me like we are talking about a 3/4 ton truck burning diesel VS a 1/2 ton truck burning gasoline. Which to buy.
Well, the diesel will get as good a mileage on the road as the gas 1/2 ton (or darn close to it), the 3/4 ton will likely not ride as well as the 1/2 ton gasser that has lighter springs - if you get a 2 wd 3/4 the ride won't be that much different as the rebound rate on the shocks are different than on a 4 wd - 2wd will get a little better mileage to boot.
With the diesel, you can pull a much heavier load if necessary than the 1/2 ton. The diesel will be running long after the gasser is dead - on average.
Frankly, the cost of the trucks - 1/2 ton gasser VS 3/4 diesel - at this point, are about the same.
If I'm looking to put $32K+ in a truck I'm not going to want to worry about overloading it, or maybe someday stumbling over a great deal on a larger boat but passing because my truck may not handle the load. Pull a 7500 lb load behind a 1/2 ton gasser and you will be ready to bury it before 150K miles, while the diesel will be pulling that load for 250K or better - every day - without working up a sweat!
We own 2 vehicles - the 1 ton Dodge 2004.5 HO Laramie that I drive and my wife's 2 yr old Cad. The Dodge is the one we travel to Texas in 2X/year. As for driving around town, the dimensions of a Ford/Chev/Dodge 1/2 ton are the same as a 3/4 or 1 ton.
I certainly know which truck I would buy.

Dodge, GM, or Ford 1/2 Ton
I apologize for being such a slow mover. I take forever to make decisions. I've ruled out the Toyota Tundra, and i don't need another big diesel truck. I just need a grocery getter, golf course truck that can pull a little, and I have to have 4WD. I am keeping my big Dodge for pulling heavy.
I drove the GM 1/2 ton again last night. It's made in Mexico. Nice truck, but not as much room in the back seat as the Dodge or Ford. Then I drove the new Dodge. Gobs of power from the get-go (3.91 gears). It has a power inverter built in for plugging electrical things in, it has built in coolers in the rear floorboard for taking drinks and ice on the road (I don't drink alcohol, but cold water and sodas is nice on the road), the steering is better on the GM, but the Dodge is made in the United States. The Dodge is a better deal. They are flat-out dealing, $3,000 or more cheaper than the GM. I can get a Dodge, put a lift kit and tires on it, and still spend about the same as for the GM or Ford, plus lifetime drivetrain warranty. I don't know guys, but that's hard to beat. The Ford is nice too, but not as much power and warranty is the worst of the three.
One thing I learned yesterday, many of the dealers put about 25 pounds of pressure in the tires to make the test drivers ride better. Another dirty little dealer trick that I wasn't aware of
