Looking to buy another pickup for running around town and a few road trips. They're selling the '09 Dodge Cummins (3/4 short bed) with ridiculous discounts in Phoenix. I've seen them for $12,000 to $13,000 off.

They have a bunch of '08 Tundras here that they are discounting $9,000 to $10,000.

Either truck will work for me, but I'm really in a quandary about what to buy. My heart says to get the Dodge, but my son is a Toyota tech and he says the Tundras are good trucks.

Anybody care to chip in and help a middle-aged man with diminishing mental capacities make up his mind?

 

Honestly I don't think I have ever heard anyone complain about the toyotas.
BUT they don't come Cummins equipped.
I vote Cummins all the way. Leave the toys for the little boys. :-)

 

If it is going to be for a grcery getter than I hate to say it but go with the Toyota. These new Dodges are not the do anything trucks they once were and you will save alot of money between the fuel savings and the maintenance costs.
If you plan to haul with it at all go Dodge

i'm pretty sure he is talking about dodge gas engine, not HD. go with the toyota for a runabout.

 

Don't buy the Toyota. PM me for more details if interested. The Dodges are MUCH better trucks. You'll be much happier with the Dodge.

 

Never had issues with my old Toyota Tundra. But was a light duty truck. For just a grocery getter it was pretty good. When I sold the Toyota it had definately held its value.

 

The one down fall that I had with toyota was getting parts. When it broke down it was down for 2-3 days waiting for parts.

 

I was looking at the diesels. You can't hardly find a 3/4 ton with a gas engine here. I looked at the new 1/2 ton Dodges, but I can't pull the trigger on a brand new model that hasn't proven itself, even though they're knocking $10,000 off them right off the bat.

 

Help with the bailout, buy the Dodge.

 

everytime my truck has been in the shop it has been atleast 2-3 days waiting on parts. If I was to buy a gas rig Toyota or Chev would be my 2 choices.

 

I'd take a 09 Dodge 1500 Gas(drive one! like WOW and lifetime power-train warranty) or 2500 Diesel over a Toyota any day of the week.Its time to bleed red,white and blue.Jump on the Toyota forums,their not all that.

 

If you are keeping your 05, and this is gonna be a second run around truck and road trip truck, Toyota Tundra all the way. My Nephew and one of my buddies has one, really nice trucks for light duty.

And maybe we should support the guys who don't need bailout money. And when truck sales slowed down, they didn't lay off a bunch of people, they put them to work around San Antonio, gardening and stuff.

Aren't our trucks put together in Mexico? Or at least some of them. And our Cummins blocks are cast in China?

 

I vote toyota I just like those.

 

Hate to say it, but if I were in your shoes, I would buy neither.

Go test drive a F150 and compare.

Love my Cummins, and for towing, nothing compares, but for a run around/light towing, the F150 is tough to beat.

 

When it broke down?...I never had one break down, ever.
