'08 warranty problems who has them?
One thing to keep in mind is that dodge knocked the warranty on diesel drivetrains down to 3yr/36k miles. Depending on how you use the truck, a low milage 5.9 might be a better investment with a 7yr/70k drivetrain warranty.
100k for the engine only. Warrany on the engine is covered by cummins, everything else is covered by DC.
Funny thing tho, I asked the local dealer here in Lamesa why DC was advertizing the 100k warranty on the powertrain. The 100k warranty is for gassers only. They suspect the reason for cutting the diesel warranty has to do with the abuse that these trucks tend take out in the field. No proof of claim to that one.
I called dealers in Lubbock and Amarillo to confirm the change in the warranty plan for '08.

Actually they didn't have many auto or G56 repairs and no need for the advertised longer warranty.Same with rear axles.Thats how that has worked for years.CUMMINS has no hunt in the warranty arena when it comes to warranty.Engines are bought AS IS from Cummins.Thats been like that since 1989.
according to the techs in my area, they see lots of leaking autos and g56's. the shifter seal for the g56 has been on national backorder at times due to the high number of failures. they also see a lot of leaking g56's that were damaged by forklifts moving them around while they were uncrated- a buddy of mine who used to be a Dodge tech showed me the bulletin about this which caused me to take a close look at mine, and sure enough it was leaking from the output shaft and shifter seal.
I thought I read the leaking G56s was quite a long time back.Yes, caused by forklifts but that was posted many many moons ago.The 48re had less warranty claims then either the Allison or Torque shift. That was posted many moons ago also.Chrysler store near me has seen very very few of either for any issues. The five speed auto used in the other trucks has just about been bullet proof also.
yup, unless your dealer threw in a powertrain warranty upgrade. me and a buddy bought our CTD's at the same dealership within the same week, but mine was a left over '05 and his was an '06, and at 45,000 miles when he went to get his leaking g56 inspection plates fixed, they said he would have to pay for it.
BTW the fed emmissions warranty on your 5.9 is 50,000 miles longer than the 6.7- i guess they had their doubts about the new DPF lasting too long.

Heh. My 03 48re leaks like a siv. Of course, it didn't start till 1500 miles past the warranty.
My dealer explained the warranty history to me, so if I was off a bit, I appologize.
They told me it was new for '08.

i chuckled when i saw that they shortened the fed emmissions warranty in mid-year '07, when they went to the 6.7- doesn't instill lots of confidence.
Chrysler has treated me like crap. They wont call me back. The dealer I bought my truck from refused to work on it so I have to drive across town to get service. 2 turbos, 1 drilled turbo, 3 reflashes. $40,000 of crap if you ask me.
