07 mega with 5.9 or 6.7

Need your opinion. My wife said the boys are too crammed up int the back of our 00' 2500. Theres not much room for them in the back and they are still growing. So now she wants a 3500 MEGA CAB! The things she puts me through. I'm looking at a 07 auto with the 6.7 and found a 07 auto with a 5.9 in it. Both have low miles and are clean. Now, it wouldn't be a daily driver and not looking to do a lot of mods. Just want a good towing machine for when we go camping with our toyhauler. It weighs in about 12k-13k loaded. I know the 6.7 has the emission crap going on but is that the only real problems? Has anyone logged some major miles on these motors yet? Do we expect them to be 350000 mile motor like the 5.9? I take care of my stuff and will keep it forever so just want some input on wants the best choice. Thanks.............Bryan

The new auto tranny is a step up from the old 48re behind the 5.9's but people have had thier fair share of trouble with 6.7 motors. The 6.7 would be nice with the exhaust brake but if you haggle the dealer right you might be able to get one thrown in on the 5.9. I have driven a 6.7 and the 6 speed auto is nice but I really like a stick. Kinda guess if you want the old proven 5.9 and 48re or the new 6.7 and 68rfe.

I have had no problems with my 6.7, good mileage, tows with no problem, exhaust brake is a great option, I think it depends on price and what you are comfortable with.

She has good taste.

My 6.7L has been a great truck; I'd never consider going back to a 5.9L after having the 68RFE and exhaust brake.

113,000 trouble free miles on mine other then the emissions stuff throwing the engine light...and since all that fell off, better mpg. I know the 5.9 really well and the 6.7 has had its issues but so have the others...it all gets worked out somehow. You might find a new unit for less then a used if you shop around.

I think I have a deal made on the 6.7 laramie. The truck looks as if its never been driven. Private owner. I'll keep you up to date!

All right! Deal is complete. I went and picked up my truck today. I got the 07 with the 6.7 and the 6 speed auto. I like it and my wife and kids really dig it also. I can't wait for someone to come out with an EGR fooler box. Hope it won't be too much longer. Anyway, seems like its going to an awesome truck. Got it just in time, seems my trans in my 2500 is shifting weird.

What do you mean by an EGR fooler box? you either remove the EGR system, or block it, or just unplug it.. and get a chip/programmer for code clearing.. Good job on the purchase, you won't be disappointed..

I think theres someone out there that has a module that plugs into the ECM plug that disables the egr and adds some horsepower...read about it somewhere.

Take it back and make sure the ECM and CCN are updated to the latest greatest part numbers. Depending on the build date it wouldn't hurt to see if the trans is up to date too. I'd leave well enough alone on the truck and enjoy.
