07' 6-speed manual question
07' 6-speed manual question
I have two questions
1. When shifting 2nd thru 6th and engine RPM's between 2000 and 2500 my clutch pedal has a harmonic vibration that vibrates my foot thru the clutch pedals full travel. The harmonic vibration lession as the RPM's fall below 2000?
Normal???
2. Sitting at a stop and the transmission in netural with the clutch fully depressed. As I let the clutch out with the transmission in netural you can here a nosie like the pilot shaft is vibrating, push the clutch in and the noise goes away?
Normal???
Anyone experience these issues?

I've had these same issues in the past. The dealer ended putting a new transmission in the truck because of a manufacturing defect. They said the shaft and most of the gears were pitted badly. The thing is I'm taking the truck back in next week for the same problems. I'll let you know what the say this time.
Proper 6spd 'clutch feel'
So, I went ahead and bought a "07.5 with the 6spd manual. I would like someone to chime in on the proper clutch feel. This is my first manual in quite awhile. I put three auto trannys in my '94, last one finaly worked because I did it myself with help from Dunrite Parts by the way). I just didn't
want to deal with anymore autos.
So any info on the amount of vibration that should or should not be felt
throught the pedal would be appreciated. I don't have much to compare the
feel too.
I don't feel anything in neutral like the original post, but shifting easy throught the gears there is a vibration through the pedal. I also get quite a
bit of variation on shift quality depending on how fast the clutch is released.
Any info would be appreciated.
To the original poster.... when you say 'harmonic', that to me sounds like the
vibration varies or pulses when say the rpm is constant.... My vibration feels
pretty steady. Maybe some of this has to do with the dual mass flywheel...?

Clanking
No clanking that far up in the gear range. I do hear it from 2nd to 3rd though. This is what I'm talking about by pushing the clutch in to fast.
This shift gets much smoother by not trying to clutch too fast..... Sound right to those shifting perfectionists out there?

The G56 is a noisy transmission. That is the reason Dodge went to the crappy dual mass flywheel, to quiet the transmission. There is also a bit of a shimmy vibration to it, totally normal. The G56, unless completely abused, is a near bulletproof transmission. the stock clutch is inadequate to say the least, and the dual mass flywheel is the weak point of the entire drivetrain. Once that flywheel goes, you will know it. You won't be able to hardly keep your hand on the shifter in neutral. It will almost feel like the harmonic balancer has slung a weight, yet in neutral you will be able to look under the hood and see that the cummins is just purring along, nice and smooth. replace with a solid flywheel and new clutch and your transmission will get noticeably noisier. However, you will have solid, hard engagements and fewer worries about the "weak link."
