Why is the stock fuel filter so restrictive?

I put on a GDP 391 kit and hooked up a test gauge (post stock filter housing) to see what pressure I had. I barely had enough to move the needle. I have 17.5 psi at the filter inlet - at the lift pump adaptor block. I changed the filter element and it didn't improve. I got a serious case of the "screwits" and quit for the night. Tomorrow I plan on pinching off the overflow line from the cp3 and see if the pre cp3 pressure goes up. I don't know what the cp3 has to maintain pressure (like the p7100 overflow valve) but 16psi DP across the stock filter doesn't look good. Any clues before I get back to it tomorrow? TIA! Craig

I fixed it! It sure helps to work with some light and check pressure at the right banjo. BTW, the Aurora 2000 and 100hp Predator are GREAT together! I think it will be all usable towing power. Craig
